ok does anyone know a good way a puppy can tell you she/he has to go to the bathroom ? this is the problem where having , now chelsea will go to the door
when she needs to go out she's really good with that, but we have three floors
in my house and if there isn't anyone on the main level at that time where the front door is
she'll only wait a few seconds then go on the floor near the door ,
she doesn't bark or wine to tell us , so if were up or down stairs we have no idea she needs to go out , is there a way to teach her to bark , come get us , ring a bell ? something ,when she needs to go out .
what does your puppy's do?
thanks Dickie

when she is unsupervised crate her, housetraining requires alot of attention to make sure mistakes are at a minimum. After she eats, plays, wakes up and basically stops moving...take her outside. Tell her outside when you take her to the door and praise her when she releases outside then bring her right back in. If you can't supervise like that then crate her at times that you can't...right out of the crate she will need to go outside as well. Good Luck!

My dog doesn't whine or bark either. I did teach him to ring a bell when he needs to go. It was really easy to teach and only took a couple of weeks. I taught him when he was about 10 weeks, too. I'm surprised that I don't hear of more people training their dog to do it.

All I can say is stay around your pup all the time, watch for the signs he/she has to go and let him out immediately. Also, when they are pups I just let them out every 15 mins or so, they will almost always go as they cannot hold it very long. Praise them everytime they do so and I give treats, this way they realize when its outside they get praise, inside they dont. They will usually hold it then as long as possible, if you arent letting them out enough its not the dogs fault it goes on the floor, pups really cant hold it that long. I guess I got lucky though with dogs that whine like no tomarrow when they need to go out. If you think you need a bell or such to let them know, I'd just stick a cowbell on the inside door handle and get them hitting that and when they do-let them out. They should catch on fairly quickly.

I am having the same identical problem, my 5 month old knows that the bathroom is outside, and he will go to the door EVEYTIME, but he wont bark or wine or anything, he will got to the door and look back at me a few times, but if im not paying attention and watching TV or something, he will go right at the door, so i am needing to know how to teach him to bark or how to ring a bell also..?

For now, just keep her with you on whatever floor you're on. That's the best way to make sure she doesn't go in the house. If you need to, get a long line & attach it to her & tether it to you. That way she can't leave your sight. It sounds like she's learning, but still at that age, by the time they realize they need to go potty, it's almost too late. It's one of those "gotta get the ball, gotta get the ball." [dog stops] "Uh oh, I think I gotta go potty" "DAAAAAD!" "Sorry, too late. I couldn't hold it any more. I tried though". :D
Potty breaks every 1-2 hrs while you're home are a must. Good luck!

thanks DickieOK anybody ever watch that mexican on animal planet Named Cezar Mulan The Dog Whisperer...of course he is totally poilitically correct but his knowledge of dog psychology is unequaled in my opinion and he is a master of it, what he does in mere seconds in amazing, on 1 episode with the same problem he actually used the term "monkey see mokey do" and when he "knew" the pup had to go out he whined with a special whine or noise only used from that point on to mean I gotta go(actually a little wolf type howl)...believe it or not he then went out with the pup and in the most secluded part of the yard he whined again the same way and actually peed himself on the ground and then let the pup do so in the same area...the pup seemed to be in a total conversation with him and later when they went back in and the pup had to go again he didnt even have to whine the pup did on its own and when they opened the door it ran right to the special spot where he peed and did its duty...very simple psychology and it gave immediate results...it seems the most complicated things are simple if you think of the pup as a follower not an independent...I only had to train 1 dog to do it because all mine are out on chains but I hadnt seen this method yet when I did it...I wish I had because I bitched and complained for a long time to get my dog to tell me instead of just going near the door too like yours...finally after his fair share of time on the chain he figured it out on his own and now he comes and tells me with a little growl and dance where ever im at...same results but the wrong approach it took me weeks instead of hours like it took him on the show...might be worth a try?

believe it or not he then went out with the pup and in the most secluded part of the yard he whined again the same way and actually peed himself on the ground and then let the pup do so in the same area...
HA! I dont recommend that part for people unless they have tall fences, or live out in the country. Could you imagine explaining to your neighbors ''Yeah, im just trying to teach my dog how to pee" :D. Sorry I got off topic here, just had a quick thought. By the way, does he get to know the animal before the show or is it a quick thing. Because remember, most things on t.v. arent how they tell you they are.
