Hi Everyone, My name is Kayla!

No, I do not currently any Pitts, but I'm currently trying to find some information about the breed, because I am interested in maybe getting one. I currently have a male LongCoat German Shepherd, Malachi, and a female german Rott, named Bella.

Malachi is turning a year and a 1/2 on July 7th. Bella will be a year old on July 18th. If some one can show me how to post pictures, I'll do that!

I do have a couple of questions about the breed though, and I figured a Pitt bull Forum would be the best place to go, since when I first got Malachi, I got so much help from a GSD forum!

1) I work with Malachi in Schutzhund and PSA(mostly Schutzhund), can I do the same with a Pitt?

2) I'm into wokring lines, is this even possible, or is it just show lines?

Please keep in mind that right now, I'm just looking for information on this breed. I know my questions are either making some of you laugh at me or cringe...

Thanks for any information that you give!

Pitbulls are not suitable for multiple dog homes. You can not train a pitbull to not be dog aggressive. Yes, some people are lucky and have a few dogs that get along but they can never be left supervised, never left unattended, and never trusted. People that don't follow the above advice are many times very ignorant of this breed and its behavior. Many times you won't see it until it is far too late and you end up sending another great dog to a shelter after it attacks and/or kills one of your other animals.

Pitbulls are way too capable and are not recommended for Schutz. We don't like any aggression being directed towards humans of any kind. There are other bulldog breeds suitable for that work with nearly as much drive as an APBT. You should look into American Bulldogs. They have many traits of a pitbull minus the dog aggression. They are however much more suited for Schutz.

2) I'm into wokring lines, is this even possible, or is it just show lines?

Working lines are not suitable for human aggression sports. It is just a bad idea with a dog capable of so much. The show lines are not of great quality. In my opinion you need to look into American Bulldogs or similar breeds.

Please keep in mind that right now, I'm just looking for information on this breed. I know my questions are either making some of you laugh at me or cringe...

Thanks for any information that you give!
In closing I would like to thank you for coming to the site to get information before purchasing or rescuing an APBT. From an honest perspective I don't think this breed is suited for the things you would like. These dogs should be owned by experienced hands and can not be taken lightly. They are very driven dogs that more often then not have high levels of dog aggression. I really think another member of the bulldog breed could make you much happier and get a long better with your other animals.

Feel free to Private Message me if you need any more info or have questions about my reply.

Best Regards,

B

“I work with Malachi in Schutzhund and PSA(mostly Schutzhund), can I do the same with a Pitt?”
Yes, and no! Yes there are a few reputable breeders, that specialize in breeding pit bulls strictly for that type of sport, and no… most lack the temperament for man work and are dog aggressive!
The breeders that work their dogs in that field, have basically breed away from the standard, and created their own breed within the breed. You and/or anyone else would/will be hard pressed to find a pit bull that is breed to the standard that could compete successfully in that type of sport. But the individuals that have breed away from the dog aggression, size, etc… all the while breeding with a vision; have created capable “pit bull” look a likes. Most are more on lines with the American Staffordshire Terrier pedigree wise. Being breed generation after generation, of show dogs. I’d recommend Howard B. at http://hometown.aol.com/howardpit1/index.html He has done quite well in the sports you are interested in, plus weight pulling. Good luck in your quest!

“I'm into wokring lines, is this even possible, or is it just show lines?”
For what you are interested in and looking for… you’ll be getting “show” lines, that are proven on the field.

Thank you, for all your info.. I've done some thinking, and I think it would be better if I got another breed. Maybe later, when I have one to no dogs, I'll get an APBT then. When I get a pup, I take them for the long haul. No matter what.. but thats just me. If you guys dont mind, I would like to stay on here, just to get more research on the breed, and to make new friends.
