I'm a first time owner and i have a 13 week old rednose male. Just curious about when and how i should get him to exercise. I have read on different website to start a puppy pulling weights as soon as they will do it. Also i have read you shouldn't do this till they are 1 year or 2 old. I have made a springpole for him with a stuffed animal on the end but he isn't into that really. Just curious on what everyone thinks.

the best way I found to start on a springpole is to knot the rope at the end and fray the leftover rope sticking out of the knot for the pup to grab on to. Hang it very low so he doesnt have to jump to get it and kinda tease him with it until he grabs a hold and works it himself. I do it in short incriments and take it away before they get bored so they will be excited next time. You can do this with hide as well. I'm sure other will have some suggestions.

You are best to keep his exercise to short walks where you teach him how to walk properly. He should walk with you, not pull you. I wouldn't be walking him miles or anything. When the dogs are still developing and growing, heavy exercise can damage their joints. Heavy work should not be started until the dog is atleast over a year old. You can start to walk them more before then but I wouldn't have him pulling until atleast a year. You can start him on a harness and rope dragging behind him just to get him used to things but don't put weights on it until he has had a chance to fully grow and mature.

Thanks when you said you fray the end do you make it so that's what the dog bites or is he suppose to bite on the knot. Also i was curious someone told me he should be starting to get where he locks on just wondering what i should expect. I haven't really seen a pup do much just mostly mature dogs. And i know not to expect something like that. Thanks again

I tie a knot in the rope with about 8" of rope from the knot to the floor, and fray the 8" of rope after the knot (the knot keeps the rest of the rope from fraying apart). The dog gets hold of the frayed ends. Make sure he's not ripping them off and chewing them up though.

It has like a 12in spring at the tree, its a lot of fun for the dogs and lots of exercise, most people dont know this, they think if your dog does this you are training them to fight,LMAO
It pisses me off!!!
