I was wondering how soon can I have my baby spayed. She is 4 months old. The vet says we can do this now. It just seems to soon to me, but then agine i'm not a vet.

The vet is totally correct. You can have her spayed right now :) BTW, thank you for being responsible and spaying your pet. 99% of all owners should take your example and do the same. Leave the breeding to the experts! I'm going to give you some rep points because you are providing a great example for other owners.

Thanks BnD. It's just common sense really. If you own something, you take care of it. I have not had much experience with this breed. So breeding is out of the question. so this is the best for both her and me.

Congrats, Dixie! Although I do have some intact animals, dogs that aren't cut out for breeding or show use get spayed or neutered. The American Verterinary Board still recommends 6 months the "universal" age to have your pet s/n, but 4 mo. is perfectly acceptable. Shelters will do pups as young as 8 weeks (although personally I'm against that), but lately studies have shown that females spayed at 3 mo. or younger have a higher incidence rate of cronic UIT's (urinary tract infections) & incontinence problems (having problems holding their bladder). So 3 mo. is the earliest I would consider having a female done. However, I still prefer the 5-6 mo. time frame.

So go ahead & schedule your appointment for your gal! She will be thankful & so will you as you won't have her bleeding all over your new furniture & carpet for at least a month out of the year (2-3 weeks twice a year)!
