Today we said good-bye to Mucha Lucha (1xW in Puerto Rico) who we lost in a tragic yard accident in wich she was strangled. Please please please go out & check your dogs to make sure there is no way possible for this to happen! We didn't think it could or would ever happen to us, but it did. And tragedies like this aren't uncommon.

The Power of the Dog
There is sorrow enough in the natural way
From men and women to fill our day;
But when we are certain of sorrow in store,
Why do we always arrange for more?
Brothers and Sisters, I bid you beware
Of giving your heart to a dog to tear. - Rudyard Kipling

Sorrow fills a barren space;
you close your eyes and see my face
and think of times I made you laugh,
the love we shared, the bond we had,
the special way I needed you -
the friendship shared by just we two.

The day's too quiet, the world seems older,
the wind blows now a little colder.
You gaze into the empty air
and look for me, but I'm not there -
I'm in heaven and I watch you,
and I see the world around you too.

all dogs go to heaven, i'm sure yours will too!

I'm sorry to hear of your loss. You have my condolences.

How did she get strangled, not meaning to bring back painful memories. Just hoping to keep others from having to go through it....:(

440, that was such a beautiful poem! It brought back the tears, but that's ok. I know it will get easier, it just never goes away.

And Crash, I would like to say what happen in the hopes that it will help to prevent this on someone else's yard. Most of y'all know that I'm a psycho person & keep all my dogs in my house in kennels/crates when I'm gone & at night. The only time they're tied out is when I'm home just in case something happens. Since we have almost 1 1/2 for a back yard (it's a somewhat wide but more long yard) all my tie-outs are 30ft. Anyways, it was such a pretty day & my friend who co-owns her with me & I were headed out so we decided to leave her tied out (she didn't want to come in). Well, I thought I had checked to make sure the tie out (I use strong cables, the pics of Lucha on her chain are when she's at my friend's house) couldn't reach the fence...or I thought it didn't reach the back fence. Our land backs up to pasture land where there are a lot of cows so my guess is that she saw the cows & dug underneath the fence to get to them (in P.R. she was being used to keep the bulls in line so cows were a stong stimulus to her). Unfortunately, once under the fence, she couldn't really move & I guess with her struggling & twisting & turning, the cable got wrapped around her neck & strangled her. When I came home, the first thing I did was check on her & that's when I noticed her on the other side of the fence just lying there. I ran out to check on her & realized that she was dead. I tried to get her back out of desparation, but I just came home too late.

Although accidents happen, I still feel it's my fault. We buried her this afternoon in the pasture behind my house (w/the land owner's permission). She was only 3 yrs old. The hardest part was not the loss for my & my friend, but for having to tell his 2 children (10 & 5) that Lucha would not be coming back. She was their dog in so many ways.

So please everyone, check your dogs & their equipment & area & then check it again just to be sure. An extra half hour a day to prevent coming home to a tragedy is nothing.

Damn...just show why everyone has to be extra vigilant with these dogs. They are just so inclined to mischief and adventure. Once again I'm sorry for your loss.

I lost my dog over the weekend. It started out last week when she got sick. At first we thought she had a stomach virus because she was throwing up all day, then a couple days later, she'll be fine, she'll be running around like her normal self again. Over the weekend, she was getting worse, all she would do is lay down all day , she wouldn't eat but she would drink some water. We only had her for two weeks. Yesterday morning my boyfriend had taken her out for a walk, when he woke up , she just layed there and wouldn't get up, so he carried her outside so she can use the bathroom, when she did, she pooped up blood, so then my boyfriend had rushed her to the vet, when he got there he told the vet how she was acting and she was sick, the vet examined her and did some x-rays on her, he also had put a needle through her and all she did was sit there and didn't move. Well, come to find out, when the vet did some x-rays , he found a a tumor in her stomach. It was the size of a soft ball. The vet had told my boyfriend that it was cancer. Teh vet said that most dogs get it. They treat it like they treat it in humans. My boyfriend had asked how she had gotten it and he found out that the owner who had sold her had backyard bred her mother to much. Well, anyway they had said that theres a slight chance that if she does make it she'll have it again and die. There's this adopting place that only adopts pitbulls and rottweilers that my boyfriend had found on a website. The vet told him that if she were a german shepard, she wouldn't make it. So the vet had kept her to give her to this adoption place for pitbulls and rottweilers. It's a shame because she was only four months old and we only had her for two weeks.
