Hey All..
I recently just got a 8 week old male pit bull.. he is american and colby...
My boyfriend got him for me 2 days ago.. he is such a loving dog.. but we have a few problems with him, and i am hoping a few of yall might help... he seems to be great with the potty training, i feed him and take him directly outside, and of the mornings he goes straight to the door, to use the bathroom....
SOME PROBLEMS ARE...
--- He seems to alwatys try to nibble on toes, and hands of people including me..
---he always barks at other dogs
---he chews on everything...couch .ect..( we bought him chew toys, and when he chews on teh couch, we put his chew toy in his mouth, but he still sont get the idea)
----He dosent listen to me, like when i call for his name, or when i tell him NO..
--- he always grabs the bottoms of peoples pants...they say that he is only playing, but what do you think?
Can anyone of yall be able to help me?
Thanks

Tru LuvinFirst off, ALL Pit Bull Terriers are American. That is not a bloodline. Now all of the things you're complaining about, are natural puppy things. That's what they do. Just work with him, love him, and most important of all, seeing as you obviously don't know much about this breed, NEUTER him.
Welcome to puppyhood! LOL

it only gets better hehehe
Good Luck with the pup...my advice is to read everything you can. Definitely a long road ahead of you as far as training goes.
As far as giving him the chew toy as a distraction, or to redirect his attention.... He won't grasp the idea right away. the key is persistence. YOU have to remind him every time. Be patient, he'll eventually get the hang of it :)

One thing I didn't notice her say Chainsoff,is that when he does these things that she reprimands him. That is the biggest thing scold him,but lightly as he is just a baby and you've only had him a couple days. When he chews on the couch correct him ,THEN give him his toy.Otherwise, have fun with the baby.Keep him occupied and loved. That's all he wants.

You've only had him for two days, he will start to mind you with time. And like everyone else said reprimand and distract. Be patient its alot of work!
It Is Going To Take Some Time U Have Only Had Him For A Couple Of Days And He Is Only 8 Weeks It Will Take Some Time. When I First Got My Dog I Would Tell Him No And Clap Or Snap The Loud Noise From Claping Would Scare Him And He Would Stop. No Spanking. DONT FORGET TO SOCIALIZE YOUR DOG U CAN DO THIS BY HAVING ALL KINDS OF PEOPLE AND KIDS PLAY WITH HIM.

Follow whiskey's advice with your puppy & keep it fun. Persistence is the key.
[QUOTE] [/Yes, i dont know much about this bred of dog.. i have done major research on pits thoughQUOTE]
This breed of dog IS the AMERICAN PIT BULL TERRIER also known as a "PIT" in slang (which people should quit using by the way). Not to be harsh, but you HAVE TO & NEED TO understand what kind of dog you own! Please don't tell me that you plan to breed him/her, keep it spayed/neutered. You have a lot to learn starting from the basics of basics & this is a good site to that. Just keep an open mind that most everyone on here is committed to the wellbeing of this breed & is willing to help by answering any questions you may have.

“my pup is now 11 months old and she stills bites my pant legs”
Not good! Judging by your past post, I betting your dog is being treated like a “human”. Which is the root of all your problems with her. She doesn’t see nor view you as her leader, you are nothing more than a roommate, that supplies her food, and attention when she demands it, instead of “earns” it. No matter how much you “love and care for” your pet, at the end of the day, they’re still a “dog” and need to be treated as such. That is, if you are wanting a happy, well adjusted dog.

Treat a bulldog likes its owner and it will be your best friend, treat it like a best friend, and it will be YOUR owner.

Hey Lucy.. I hope that my precious lil' Dimond dont still bite at pants legs at 11 months.. but i hope sooner or later he will stop.. our 3 year old loves to wear dresses, he seems to want to nibble at her dresses too.. we have began telling him "NO, BAD" everytime he nibbles on her dress and on pants legs of others.. he isnt as bad as he used to be.. i guess considering he is starting to get used to out rules..
i appreciate yall a bunch..

so i ignored lucy for 4 days and now she is being much better, i make her sit before she gets food and water, she has to let me walk in doors first, and well all the other things people told me to do. i think she is a very smart pup cause she picked up on my ignoring her and responded very well. she knows that i am not going to pay attention to her until i want to. she just plays by herself until i say her name. its really amazing how much a pup can change in just a few days. now i know how to be around her, and i know not to spoil the pup. thanks for the help everyone, i think i would be going crazy without all of you people and your great advice.
