well, i have had pretty good luck teaching my pup to 'sit', 'shake hands" and 'beg', but dont know how to teach him the 'stay' command, after i click and treat for the sit command, he jumps right back up, any thoughts on teaching how to 'stay'?
thanks all!

My dog used to do that to, so I started giving him only half of the treat for sitting (making sure he saw that I still had the other half and saying "stay") I would reward him with the other half if he continued to sit. Eventually he caught on.

In order to do that, he must be taught to stay in each of those positions.

<CENTER>So start with the 'stay' from the sitting position:

• Have your dog sit; make sure he is sitting comfortably.

• Stand to his right, put the palm of your hand in front of his face and say "Stay".

• Step away using your right foot.
You should always leave your dog using your right foot.

• Take only one or two steps, turn and stand right in front of your dog.

• You may repeat the word 'stay' a couple of times.
Wait only a few seconds and then return to your dog's side.

• When you finish, say "okay!". Get your dog to move and give him
positive reinforcement. Really praise him!

Sounds like more structured advise than I gave! I'll try that with my next one, Thanks HighRoller

Great advise Highroller. I would like to add one more thing. If your pup gets up and moves toward you without your OK, tell him no and put him right back where he was sitting and start over with the stay command again. This way he will learn he is not going to get away with moving. Gradually increase the time you expect him to stay. Dont forget he is a pup with a short attention span. Good Luck!
