Knoxville, TN -- A local animal rescue group will nurse a pit bull injured in a dog fight back to health.
Gypsy is a pit bull from North Carolina who was trained by her previous owners to be a fighting dog. But she lost one of her legs in a fight.
She was taken in by Tri-County Animal Rescue. They took her to UT's vet school for surgery Monday.
People from around the world sent money to help pay for the operation, raising more than $10,000 to save Gypsy's life.
"She's done extremely well," Rick Yeager says. "She's eating well again, playing ball and getting around on three legs just as well as she did on four. Her recovery is coming around really well."
Gypsy will be fostered by a local animal rescue network for about 10 weeks while she recovers from her surgery.
After that, she'll go back to live with the Tri County Rescue League as its mascot.

Not to sound like an ass, but what makes her good enough to save, when all of F.B.'s, and most any fight dog's will be slaughtered?

I agree chainsoff..They were so quick to save a dog"trained " to fight, as they say, that was found on the side of the road, BUT F.B's dogs whom were taken good care of arent good enough to save???? Soceity has issues

Alot depends on the people who save them. Despite all of our efforts (the LA APBT Rescue along with many other people & some smaller shelters), the SPCA did what they want to do & LIKE to do, & that is kill apbts while making up horrid stories about what a danger they are to society if released. Bigger organizations seem to want to put an end to the apbt as if by making those statements they will get more public approval resulting in more donations from the public for "what a good job they're doing". The fact that Floyd's dogs were destroyed is heinous & made several of us, who do some type of rescue work, cry. Vets where I worked were pissed, I was pissed, thousands of people were pissed. But the first ones to get to the dogs have the ability to decide their fate, & that's what they do: the fate of the apbt is death at the bloodied hands of a dog "rescuer"
Thats Sooo Sad But Im Glad People Cared Enough To Save Maybe There Is Some Good In The World After All.

If that aint truth!!!
So again, why are these animals allowed to be obtained by the public? Close the circles folks!!!

I believe she was found around April 11th, this year, and that Christmas photo was taken within the last two weeks. So, we're looking at approximately 8 months?

wow that is cool
Gypsy looks great!
I've been following this since she was found. Some folks felt that she should have been euthanized, while others felt she should be saved. In one of the emails I received from the rescue: "since it keeps coming up, let’s address the issue of euthanasia. Many people think Gypsy has suffered enough and we should put her to sleep. At Tri-County Animal Rescue, we let the animals make this decision. If they are fighting to live, than we help them fight. If they have decided it’s time to go, than we help them on their journey. Gypsy very much wants to live."
I am glad that she pulled through, and I know I may be in the minority here. She is now being used as a part of a program to educate children about animal abuse, and I think that is very important.

The shelters kill the healthy APBT's like FB's because there is no drama involved that they can use to make more money.....

That's rather cynical, but I can understand where you're coming from after what you've gone through. I bet more money was spent saving this girl than they have received. Plus, as Judy said, she is now being used to teach children about the horrors of animal abuse. If she can save one kid from abusing an animal, then that's worth all the money in the world.
