This is not to single anyone out I just wonder what are some of your pet peeves. I have one about how people refer to our breed. First off every REAL dogman I have been associated with just calls them "bulldogs" only reason I say "pit bull" here is because that is how most people refer to but my BIG pet peeve is people referring to them as "Pitties" For some reason that just urks me.;)
This is not mean spirited I would like other people to post their pet peeves.

I can't stand all the reports about pit bull attacks, most times it is not even a pit bull and not all the time but some times the reporter makes it sound like a real bad attack and when you look into it and get to talk to the people involved it turns out not to be much of anyhting. I feel for any one that is attacked by any person or dog but reading all the reports and knowing how reporters are gets me hot under the collar. Reporters shoud at least post a picture of the dog that did the attacking so we could see if it even looked like a pit. I wish there was a way to put a stop to all of it.

One thing for sure, don't let your dog run loose and if you have a man biter and you live in town, put it to sleep!

I know this thread was all in fun but peeves you ask for and peeves ya got.

I agree with BIZ on the "PIT/Pit's" term. For some reason it just sounds like some low life slang to me.

Has nothing to do with the breed, but fat people are a major pet peeve. I mean come on, keep your fatness inside the house where others aren't forced to see it haha No, but really, I too am sick and tired of seeing all of the bullshit on the 6 o' clock news simply because saying the words 'pit bull attack' is good for ratings. There are many other breeds of dogs biting people every day. Why don't those ever make the news?

I guess my biggest one would be...hmmm lemme see, signs of an irresponsible owner and thugs who walk around the city streets with a "full-blooded pit" just trying to boost their reputation.Has nothing to do with the breed, but fat people are a major pet peeve. I hate when someone sees you with a puppy and comes loving up on it(I hate that in itself because you never know what they may be carrying, such as parvo from their yard)but not only that but they'll be "oh he's soooo cute and loveable,What kind is he.Usually I just say a bulldog.Once in a while I get oh,what kind of bulldog then I say an APBT.All of a sudden your puppy has the black plague or something because everybody gets away.
Then you have idiots you see in Petsmart and such (and this has happened on way more than one occasion) you see someone with a bulldog and vice versa, you ask what bloodlines their's is and he says "full blooded pit"ARGGGGGHHH!!! azzmunches!

Irresponsible, uneducated, idiots that think they are "tough" because they have a "pit". And just what kind of "pit" do they have? American, or rednose pit...lmao

I hate seeing the ads in the newspaper for 1/2 pitbull 1/2 akita or pitbull puppies $50 no papers will be HUGE.. Depressing.. Sometimes I just call all the ads in the newspaper to see if ANYONE is being responsible with their dogs, sad thing is alot of those "HUGE" dogs are coming from the weight pullers in my area.. Oh and not to mention the one major breeders of Blue dogs in my area that is flooding the city with his dogs. There is usually 2 or 3 ads in the paper for pups from his yard or off his stock sold to someone else trying to make a buck..

If I aired out all my pet peeves, Shon would need to change servers again......lmao. My biggest pet peeve is the current laws regarding animals. If a person beats the hell out of another it's a misdemeanor, but if two bulldogs are allowed to fight it's a felony. When did animals gain more clout and rights than we have?

My neighbor is my PET PEEVE! He has about 10 dogs all running around together in the backyard who are supposedly "pitbulls" You ask the bloodline he says "rednose" or Boudreaux, sometimes he throws in carver. None of them are registered except one and its a preety decent dog but hes breeding it to the other mutts and breeding all them together and its just ridicoulous!. He seen a guy walking down the road the other day with a "pit" that was in heat and he said give me $50 and I will breed her to my "pit" Turns out when they tried to breed she had already been bred with an american bulldog!!

Bubba
02-11-2005, 10:22 AM
lol heres a pet peeve...people that think just cause a dog isn't registered, that the breeding can't be correct...like ADBA or any other registry means that the breeder is honest. Without a good dog, papers aren't nothing more than a thing to wipe your a$$ with.

I have a few more like:

How come when you someone stops you with your dog they want to tell you a "pit" story. If it's bad it always happens to someone else. They know someone who's cousins brother sisters aunt had a "pit" that attacked someone.

Also if the general public is against dog fighting how come they always want to tell you that they know another breed of dog that has beat up a "pit".

I think everyone on this board shares the pet peeve of people owning the breed and knowing absolutly nothing about their dogs. I had one kid ask me did I want to breed my female to his male. Even though I had no intention of doing so I just wanted to test him a little. I asked him how is dog was bred and of course the answer was "full blooded". So I gave him another chance and asked him again and he said "oh, he is thoroughbred" I had to leave immediatly because I didn't want him to hear me laughing.

my biggest pet peeve is the 50% of the pit bull owner population--those who need a "pit bull" to obtain themselves a reputation, bybswho feel the need to breed every male & female (on every heat starting below a yr old) but yet do not feel they need to feed their dogs, give any sort of attention & god forbid, give them heartworm prevention, & streetfighters. also those bybs who advertise they have Boudreaux Pit Bulls or American Pit Bulls (American seems to be a "bloodline" in these parts) like they are a different breed all their own & upon question bloodlines either a. they aren't registered so good luck or b. any foundation dog is about 20+ generations back. UGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! want me to keep going?;)

Another one is how do people start their research on the breed AFTER they get a dog. I had a subscription to both the SDJ and the Gazette two years before I got a dog. And I had all the Stratton books as well. My phone bill was well over $100 a month just from calling breeder in those two magazine.

A big pet peeve is BYB's. Someone once tried to have an arguement about all the ads in the SDJ. I can tell you just because someone advertised in the SDJ does not mean they will sell YOU a dog. I used to call people all the time and ask questions and most of the good breeders would not sell you a dog unless they knew who you were. The guy I bought my first dog from would not even let me visit his yard for about a year that we talked on the phone. We eventually became good friends and years later he ended up being one of my groomsmen in my wedding. So just because it was advertised does not mean they are all peddlers.

There are some people I know that always seem to think I should breed my male to their female, or my females to their males BECAUSE their dog is full blooded rednose, or full blooded american, one guy has a dog that is brindle on top and white on bootom, but my favorite is the guy that thought I should breed one of my females to his male, because his dog was Full Blooded PedigreeI was like WTF

One of my biggest pet peeves is people who talk shit about others. Theres a fine line between honest opinion and just blowing smoke out of somewhere. There is no 100% guarenteed bloodline out there to my knowledge so of course theres gonna be a bad dog here and there. Instead of getting on the internet and running their mouths, they should be contacting the breeder and talking to them about it

No ones gonna like every strain /line /breeder out there but to run a person through the muck when its not needed is childish and shows just how immature people can be

HMMM, I'd have to say people in gneral. I encounter all types of people on an everyday basis. A LOT of people are ignorant creatures. The best are the ones who say,"I went to prison for selling meth, but I'd have never got caught if the police didn't know." Well, no s*&t. Our dogs are tested to be worthy of breeding, IMO people should be also!

my biggest pet peeve is the people that sell at the flea market in our area, they are all byb's and if you ask them what the bloodlines are they tell you either black nose or red nose, last time i checked those were not bloodlines. they also think that a real bulldogs are red nose and that if your dog has a black nose it must be a mix! they are people that are just out to make a buck and most of the have other breeds. you should have seen their faces when they saw a pic of our black & tan, not one of them believed that it was not a mix! also can't stand those folks that tell you their pups are 6 wks., yet they weigh about 20 lbs a piece.

The ads I see in my local newspaper. They usally say "Pit Bulls, 15 F 20 M, $150 all colors" Those just eke me!

The people who don't neuter their dogs because they think that it is cruel, or because they need to breed once. *rolls eyes at ignorant people...*

Okay I guess I will play. people without manners, intolerant people who see only THEIR side, prejudiced people, people who stick their noses into other people's business, ignorant people who make no attempt to educate themselves, and lastly people who are unneccessarily rude.( such as our resident PETA promoter)

well people who have no clue about this breed trying to educate others on it. like the gentleman that my self and texasbullgs saw at a trades days the proceeded to tell us there are only 4 breeders in the US trying to preserve the OFRN. And he could tell the dog on my shirt was "A Red Ranger Dog" becuase of his shoulders. Another is when someone comes up oh thats a pretty dog i have "rednose bloodline" or "brindle bloodline" dog as well. People who knowingly breed currs or dogs with defects and try to cover it up. Well that will do it for now lol

ok some minor pet peeves....I hate bad drivers and bad spellers. I hate when people come up to me and ask if my dog is a rednose (like thats his bloodline) when they can clearly see that he is red with a red nose. Then when I tell them his bloodline they dont know what the hell im talking about. people who are ignorant about pitbulls. people who make stupid comments about pitbulls. Like this guy who told me how he hated pitbulls but my dog was good looking and were there any other pups for sale from the litter. Im like WTF? backyard breeders who try to sell their dogs based on big heads, wide chests, and blue color. people who call pitbulls "pitties". humaniacs. ok im done for awhile.

ok, ive got a few too, people who come to my house to buy a pup and even though they were referred by a friend and told there is a spay/neuter contract, get angry when i wont give them a dog after they tell me they cant wait to breed it and make some money. also when people will sit there and pet one of my pups and proceed to lecture me on how crazy i am for having and raising pit bulls with 2 small babies......WHILE THEY ARE STILL PETTING THE DOG!!! also when people say their dog is AMERICAN RED NOSE and would i like to breed to their dog and make some money....anyone who is not ever willing to listen to the facts (it took me 5 years to turn my mom around .....after flooding her email with everything good i could find...lol)

I know you think that post above was talking about the other thread and pertaining to you, but it was not. I have been around these dogs since '88 and if you read I said "I have talked to people that own them and they will ask me about them "turning" on you." I have never talked to you so this was not pertaining to you. I even have been at hunts where guys seemed to be afraid of handling there own animals.

The funny thing before I noticed your name and figured you were referring to the other thread. I was going to post I agree with you and I have been guilty of that myself.;)

Well I apalogize; you see I'm new to this site and felt like I already had to defend myself and my pup. Sorry for the misunderstanding............ back to your post, I have to agree with you too....lol. I've seen it in this breed as well as other breeds such as Rottweilers; people own a certain breed for the status symbol but inside are terrified of their own dogs all along.

My pet peeves are:
1. People telling me about their friends or their own bulldog and referring to the bloodline by the color of the dog. Ex. It's a brindle!

2. People who walk out of their way to get around your dog or look scared to death to come anywhere near you and ask from across the street if you have pups!

I've had this one told to me before when asking about someones dog: "it's a rednose and I can't wait to get another so I can walk down the street with one on each arm?"

3. people who get bulldogs and automatically want to breed them for some reason

4. irresponsible and ignorant people in general

5. THE BAD RAP these dogs get!
