I already have a pitt mix, shes 1/2 pitt and 1/2 pointer, a nice girl 5 months 45 lbs, there a young couple down the road they bred a black and white staffy shes about 50 lbs to a mostly white pitt, bit of tan on him, hes about 80lbs, 11 pups all diff colors, spots, when I went to see them the female was pretty aggressive, what do you think of this mix? Would the female being aggressive matter, they said she was being like that because of the pups. I want to get a male, not planning to breed any dogs. Please help!

The only information you have given is about colors and size.. Did they talk to you about temperaments (other than the female being aggressive), health problems, training issues, or bloodlines?
A female sometimes does tend to be protective toward their babies, but I haven't had ANY that are trying to bite someone over them. All my females, as well as females I have cared for from friends, have never been more than nervous with new pups. I handle all pups here from the first minute, and NEVER been biten by a mom.
GOD I HOPE YOU WON'T HAVE TO PAY FOR IT! Those neighbors of yours need a good swift kick in the butt. If you are only giving one of the little pups a good home and are having him neutered then save his little life, raise him right, and be proud of your self. I would agree that she was prob. agressive because of her pups especially if you are a stranger. It seems very strange to me that they wouldn't seperate the pups from a mom while people were coming to look? If you have room in your home and experience with multiple dogs - then it's your decision. GOOD LUCK what ever you decide

Most likely the dam was being aggressive due to the pups..they can get very protective
Maybe you should check her out on nuetral ground, away from the pups first
Ultimately it will be you feeding, caring for etc the pup so its your choice to make
Think of it this way. Why did these people breed their dogs. What makes their dogs better than most. How did they improve the breed with this breeding. How many are they keeping. How many times was the female bred. How much are they asking. Are you ok with supporting BYB if thats the case? Are their dogs pets or do they show, weight pull, compete in some form with them?
Remember..if they answer "cause they're pretty or friendly thats not a good reason to breed.
Since you dont want to breed, have you consdiered adopting a APBT that really needs a home (from a reputable rescue ..you can get both pups, adults, pure bred, mixes) Dogs that have already been tossed out
its your choice to make.
D--OH, LOL excellent post Rocksteady I gotta spread some more points around but I'll tell you here, LOL...

Thanks, I've got experience with multiple Dobes, they did put the mom in another room for a while so I could see the pups, she is only 1 1/2 yrs old 1st litter, they are keeping a pup, and the studs owner is taking a pup, they want $400 cdn, but if I offered $200 I'd say they'd take it, they are friends with the studs owner and thought it would be a good way to get another pup each, were thinking there would be 5 or 6 pups. Instead there were 11, I'd say some of them are going to end up at a shelter. The $ is not the biggest deal to me, would like to give one a good home. There was no talk about health, problems, etc... They are only 2 wks old. Have not met the stud, only pics, but I can arrange to see him. They are pets, no work, pulling etc...
I want to get a pup 8-12 wks, male, would probably be better to get one from a rescue, can not find one near here. Newfoundland Canada, which is as far East as you can go. A mix would be good as well. Any one knows of any let me know.

it's not his fault guys. pitts to be, you might get some neg feedback on this prob due to the dislike most of us here have for back yard breeders (bybs-those who breed to make money & dont' give a rat's ass about the dogs or their health & care). While it sounds you are just trying to give at least 1 of these pups a good home (which we commend you for), you also need to think about buying aka supporting a byb. But it's your decision. Most on this site are helpful, informative, & will do their best to answer your questions honestly. I wish I could help you in this decision, but all I can do is tell you what I would do if I were in your shoes & that is not buy this particular pup. You really want to find a well-bred APBT, one in which the breeder can show you the sire & dam, tell you about their temperaments, explain his reasoning for breeding these 2 dogs, & help you chose the best pup in the litter to suit you. A good breeder never turns away questions & is willing to help out in your decision & offer advice. Look for these kinds of breeders. Take your time & contact others w/APBTs to also see what other choices you have. These pups are only 2 wks (I believe you said that), so you have a month or more before you need to make any decisions. Good luck, keep us posted, & have some fun on this great site!!
criticism comes and goes...just be responcible

Thanks, sounds like good advise. I would be supporting these guys if I bought one. I'm just worried whats going to become of them all :( I don't know if I'd call them a byb? Just a young couple ~18 yrs, not breeders, 1st litter, 1st dog, they do bring her to the vet regularily, she looks very healthy. What else would I be getting in the way of criticism?
not criticism towards you - but towards them.

You mean the pup or the people with the pups?

Again like I have said before if they insist on selling these pups and you yourself feel that its a good decision to buy one, better you being a responsible owner then someone who may turn out to be irresponsible.

Don't know how they'll do with the selling? I'd say some are going to end up at the shelter, I know I can be a great owner, would feel better about getting a pup through a rescue or responsible breeder. I know there are going to be people getting these pups that are not responsible. Just the type people around here that are going for such dogs. I'm certainly not running down the road just yet to make a down payment.
Hey Pitts to be,
You did the right thing by asking questions , but I wouldn't buy from a BYB. You also did the right thing by emailling me for a rescue, I will be emailling you an application first before I can give you anymore info, I also don't have any male pups in the shelter right now. I have Two females (2yrs) here right now. I will keep in touch.
