View Full Version : Worried And Flustered...can Someone Help??????

ok it started a week ago i could not get codie to stay in with her pups so i started them on puppy chow....they are doing great but they are not what i am worried about..... codie like i said did not want to feed them..... all of a sudden thursday she decides she is going to feed them now..... well i let her didn't think anything of it it.. had been 5 days sence she had though ....well no more then 30 mins after the pups feed eveyone of them started throwing up i took them to the vet and the vet told me not to let her feed them that her milk had gone bad..(not mastitis or anything like that)he just said gone bad....well i asked him if he could give her something to dry her up he said she will on her own ...well i called him this mornin and told him she was in pain because they are so full....and he still wouldn't give her anything...he said it would go away...what do i do to help her get thur this.... i thought of putting her in a warm bath but i am afraid that her tits would get cold afterward and turn into mastitis...i don't know what to do.....if you all have some input to help please do.....:( thanks dora

To help dry up a bitch, normally you would cut her food back and then gradually increase it until its back to normal level.

but how long do i cut her food off and how gradual do i increase it when i start her back on it?????

Cut her food in half. You should notice a difference in just a few days. Gradually increase her food intake after you see that she's beginning to dry up. She should be back to her regular feed level in two weeks at the very most, after which she will continue to dry up. Her body will gradually stop utilizing calories and nutrients for milk production as you reduce the food.

If you need to, milk her. Just squeeze. She'll appreciate it. & also do as everyone else said & cut back on her food about 25%.
