what bloodlines tend to stay in the 45-60lb range and are also good lines? I keep looking at all these kennels and their dogs are always 70lbs and over and they're just too big for me, I like mine alot smaller. thanks in advance for all help and advice.

Actually out of my colby stock I only have one taller colby dog, the rest tend to be shorter and smaller. My main male is a little tall but still well in the confirmation standard. They tend to be in the 30-55lb range as well..

It might be you. I found the Colby dogs to look more athletic, if they were a bit fatter it make give the illusion of shorter legs.

how come colby isn't in the bloodlines forum?

I'd say because its not a really popular bloodline, and many believe its a bloodline of the past and not the future. There are only a limited number of kennels out there that deal with the pure colby, although there are many that have the colby crosses.

so which one would be better, a colby cross or one that's pure colby?

That all depends on what you are looking for in an APBT.. Colby crosses, IMHO, tend to be higher strung then the linebred colby dogs who seem to usually be calmer.
As always its all in what you want. So far the only thing you have stated is that you want a dog that is smaller.. not alot of information to go by...

not many people breed colby line for gameness , you'd have to look hard , but if you find a game pure colby it's way better then a colby cross........imho hardly like i said hardly anyone is breeding colby line for gameness now and days , so it will be hard to get your hands on some game ones.
If you like game small ones, check this site out. www.ponchodogs.org (http://www.ponchodogs.org) He has been in the game for a while.

Very surprised to here that you think the game pure colby would be better than the colby cross.... When you cross you tend to get a more "complete" dog, by leaving the colby pure it tends to have imperfection due to being bred so tight for so long. But then thats just my opinion/experience..lol
But like I said it all depends on what you want in a dog..
We've got some jocko/redboy/bullshit crosses that are in the lower 20s at almost 8 months..lol

i'm looking for one that is game but also calm, doesn't act crazy when another dog is in sight (already have one that does that). has the heart and the drive to do anything and won't stop until it completes it's mission and love doing it. i don't want it too tall (like the ones that look like great danes) but not too short either (like the ones some people call dwarfs). maybe this little bit of information can help out better. thanks for all the advice.

I know this is generic but...
the redboy dogs could be what your looking for.. although some tend to be high strung.. I'd recommend visiting several yard with different types of dogs to get an idea on which bloodline you would be happy with.. If that's not possible look over websites, and call the kennels. If they won't talk to you unless you are interested in a pup hang up and call someone else..VERY good rule. They shouldn't mind someone calling to ask questions about their bloodline and not trying to buy a pup right away, just doing research.

i agree ladyrampage , but i feel the more pure your dog is the better he'll or she'll produce , but i understand you'd have to cross somewhere to keep from loosing triats and things in that matter.

You can have dogs from the same litter and one will be hot and crazy and the other one will be laid back.
One of the best all around dogs I have seen came from a Redboy Hemphill cross. He was game had ability and was the most even tempered dog in the house that you could ever want. He would even think about another dog unless he was in a situation when he had to. But I had his belly sister in the house and she was just a nut.
So I think what you are looking for depends on the individual dog.

I agree 100%.. usually the purer dog is the produce but the cross is where you get your better working dog, most of the time..IMO...

i've looked at alot of websites (outside of gamd-dog) and most people are breeding for the big head and wide wide chest and the weight. and from what i've read and heard there is no such thing as a 95lb purebred pitbull. if i'm wrong please correct me. and maybe you can help with this as well, I still can't figure out how to read a ped. i'm not an expert with these things but i'm looking forward to that day i become one. until then i have alot of questions.

I do believe you are in the right place then..lol Ask those questions and learn all you can before getting your first APBT.
This board has tons of information. Check under the bloodlines area and read some of the past posts which have alot of pedigree links..

I agree but if i can find a line that tends to throw laid back dogs then I have a better chance in picking a pup that will be laid back as well as have the other qualities. you know what I mean?

Well this isn't my first APBT, i have two right now. I was just never into the bloodline and ped thing it just didn't matter to me and kinda still doesn't. But for the next one I get I would like to know it's background and what I can kinda expect from him. Not saying because he has CH in his ped that he will become a CH but I will be able to see what his parents and grandparents and so on became.

I understand what you mean. My suggestion to you is to find a breeder that can help you pic the pup you want. If you talk to someone like a M. Norrod or B. Sorrells who have been breeding their own line of dogs for over 30 years they can help you find the dog you want because they know their dogs inside and out.
I think what you are looking for in a dog it I would concentrate more on finding a good breeder than to try to find a line that is just known for a certain trait.
