Denver, CO -- A Westminster man is fighting to have his pit bull returned after it was shot by police.
Police captured the dog after shooting it and another pit bull, who didn't survive. They said the animals chased an elderly woman and officers on Monday.
The dogs' owner, Jack Ayala, was charged with owning dangerous dogs.
Police said the animals terrorized the neighborhood.
"They were definitely a threat," Westminster Police Department spokeswoman Stephanie Topkoff said. "They were aggressive. They were chasing an elderly female and the animal management officer."
Ayala told CBS4 News that he doesn't believe the charges.
"I don't believe any of it -- none of it," Ayala said. "I believe the police officers killed them for no reason at all because they're pit bulls and the community gives them a bad rap because their pit bulls."
