I have a question or really I'm not sure if this is a question or just a type of scientific evaluation I have had.

There has always been something that my mind has always questioned. As we all know our breed of dog was created by combining different dogs to create the APBT or the Am Staff. Why is that everytime I see an amstaff they all look the same, somewhat. But then you take the APBT and you see soooo many variations of them. But yet they are all considered to be APBT. Is it possible that there is only one way for our breed to look and not have so many variables? I know that a few may make sense, but this is beyond a few. Or is it possible that somewhere in between the creation of our breed a few dogs would pass on a more dominant gene of what they were bred with. For example. I see so many different types of looking dogs. Some have big heads and short bodies like a english bulldog. some have narrow mouths and look more like a hound dog than a pitbull, yet people advertise them as apbt. Some have more of a pointed head and pointed ears. Some have ears that lay down flat and small or BIG. What would be the cause of that? Could these dogs just be throw backs of a different breed that was used to create our breed?

Does this make sense? Does anyone understand what I'm trying to say.

I think it stems from the fact that some many different people are breeding for so many different things.. There are more selective breedings happening that are based on looks alone, IMO..

The reason for variance in the APBT is due to it's having been bred for performance with little or no concern for its looks or conformation. The AmStaf on the other hand has been bred almost solely for the conformation ring with little or no concern for its performance. Thus AmStafs tend to look very much alike, whereas APBT tend to have more variation among them.

while I agree with crash (so I will not restate that :) ), I also think there is a lot of variation to the APBT due to dishonest people breeding other dogs into the APBT to get size or even color & also many people in this area will sell mixes as pure bred. I see many a fake peds being thrown together just to get a dog resgistered when we know ful well that there is no f*****g way that's the truth. i.e. when my husbands O.E.Bulldogge got to one of my females we found homes for the pups in advance, but still had several people inquire about them & have the nerve to tell ME that the pups WERE indeed full APBT. not a chance guys.....;)
