Does anyone find the pitbull or amstaff thing sketchy? Theres always those that say this dogs an amstaff or this dogs a pit. And does an expert have an answer as to the true difference besides the canada/U.S registration? Just curious... I've read so many different opinions on the subject.

Hopefully this will help you. A link from the FAQs:

Are APBTs and American Staffordshire Terriers the same thing? (http://www.game-dog.com/forums/faq.php?faq=common_myths#faq_ast_apbt_same_thing)

In essence an AmStaff is an APBT bred for a specific look. When the AKC stud books were opened for the "Staffordshire Terrier", APBTs were allowed to be registered under that name. Colby's Primo was the dog used for the AKC standard, Primo was actually a tri-registered dog (ADBA, UKC, and AKC). Eventually (I believe the 70s), the AKC changed the breed name "Staffordshire Terrier" to American Staffordshire Terrier to not confuse people with the Staffordshire Bull Terrier. The Staffordshire Bull Terrier is a whole different story, I can tell that too if you like. So in a nutshell, all AmStaffs are a subset of APBTs bred for a specific look but not all APBTs are AmStaffs unless both sire and dam are registered with the AKC as AmStaffs.

I will agree with you on this one. Well stated.

Amstaffs are the untested show version of the APBT. The only conformation they are bred for is appearnance. IMO they are nothing but pretty curs. APBTS in their true form are working gamedogs bred to a standard of gameness & ability, improved upon by strict testing & culling to reproduce the best of the qualities of the previous generation.
