these are not my thoughts but i got permission from the person who posted this question on another forum to post it here. i think it would make for a good topic.

I know that the OFRN dogs have a very rich past. When does past not matter anymore? Dogs have not been (legally) matched in decades now. What point must you say that OFRN blood is being bred strictly for color? The gene pool is getting smaller for pure bred OFRN certainly your not breeding for the embetterment(bushism lol) of the breed if you are breeding by color, right?

I would love some incite on this concept.

While there are "A LOT" of Kennels out there that are breeding Red dogs just for the sake of them being Red, there are other Old Timers (old timers to me because they are 30-40 years my senior) that still keep some good Old School Red Lines intact.

Cedar Brook Kennels keeps some great Red dogs. The line there has some great Patricks dogs, Maloney dogs and Wilder dogs in their lines, and it is kept very very very tight.

There are some of whom will say if it isn't Lightner, Hemphill or Wallace then it isn't truly an "OLD FAMILY RED NOSE".

So OFRN watered down yes. Are there still some great genetics from the Strain that are kept and cherished? Yes, yes and another yes. :D

I think "old fam" was a line of dogs and people just use taht as a turm to describ dogs to day. If you know " MIKE" he would be the man to ask he has had stuff from that line.

There are still a couple places to get ofrn dogs. That aren't all that watered down. Look around on this site. As I was told to do. You will find some kennels that have them. And they have been kept pretty tight.
