APBT fanciers think the Presa is superior?

Well it's like comparing apples and oranges to me ......
Altough the presa is a great dog , and don't see how you can compare the two breeds. I see the presa as the new fashion , and I just hope it does not end up with the press problems our breed has .

Well, im Spanish and i dont think so lol, but i guess when you talk about guard dogs, then thats true. But the most complete dog imo is the APBT as working dog, the most versatile no doubt.

I agree that you can't really compare them.
One is a guardian breed, one isn't.

In some ways, it already does, because a lot of John Q. Public do think presas are pit bulls.

I agree. probably the people who thought that a Pit bull would be a good guardian breed, but now see a bigger version of what they wanted. Scary to think of those same people getting their hands on that breed.

See, I own Presas, run the Presa rescue and love both Presas and Pits. And I can say without a doubt this is all marketing hype. Presa often lack in prey drive. They make poor sport dogs- even the great ones can barely get at SchI on them and it takes a LOT more work than with a moderate quality herder. Pits surpass them easily on the field. They tire quicker than a pit- at least the show bred ones do. Too heavy, too overdone, too much mass. As for other molossers being great manstoppers- the show ring has ruined most of them- when was the last time you heard about a Neo, Bullmastiff, Dogue or English Mastiff performing it's original function? 99% of APBT are faster, drivier, want to please more, and have better endurance than 99% of Presa. Plus, they are easier to control, more athletic and challenge their owners less. That is why this time around I am going with a game- bred Pit. Unfortunately, things like this attract the wrong crowd: the crowd that wants a bigger, badder pit. Then I get a call a year later that they can't control the dog, that it is challenging their leadership, that it growls at other dogs, that they can't keep it in the yard, that the dog doesn't listen, that they need to get rid of it. And then it either lands with us in rescue or in a freezer somewhere because they had no idea what they were getting into and the type of owner that the breed needs. Genevieve

Hey, if more people get Presas over APBTs, that works for me. Let another breed move into the spotlight for a while. I'll gladly admit that their dogs are "superior" while I smile inside.

Is the Presa superior? Yes! :eek: lol Well, at least for protection work. hehehe. You have to look at things in context. He (breeder of Stone Cold) is not talking gameness or fighting ability. He or she is talking about protection work. I would like to think our dogs do mediocre in that field. Let them use other breeds. I say our dogs SUCK at human attack work. Enough said.:D
