Dog splashes water out

Hey everyone, any of your dogs actually splashes the water out of its bowl, I use this big 8 gal cooler (the tall ones, that have a lil release button on the bottom , to let out the water), it goes in half way in, into this hole i did , because he would make it fall all the time, anyways, I fill it to the top with water, within hrs, when i go to check on him, his water bowl is half way empty and because of his chain length, he cant reach the water to drink no more, when it gets hot, he like to actually put his feet in his water bowl and in the process he will splash all the water out of it, crazy lol........

Ps. the water cooler stays in place , that is not the problem, the problem is him splashing the water out of his cooler/bowl.

Have you tried putting the water cooler at the complete end of his chain, to where only his mouth can actually go in? I had a dog do this (almost) same thing, we moved it back and it made it to where he could not longer paw at the water, but could still reach to drink, I do not know if that is an option.?

Nope, but I have a dog that lays in his water bowl to cool off.

Yep the pups do it, so I bought a plastic swimming pool, they love it and now stay out of the water bowl.

We use 55 gal barrels cut in half as waterers.. they are big enough that when full a dog has a hard time moving it, and they can actually get in them to cool off. We tend to change out water every 2 days to keep it fresh and it works great. Saves on the worry they might splash or dump out their water while we are away from the house during this heat.
