he'll do well in the "best blue" and "best bully" portions of the fun show...whether or not he does well in his age group depends on the judge, but for the most part, the rangier bulldogs will win the conformation portion at the VSBA.

Yeah he does need to tuck that tummy more. But i would really just enter him in best blue because i never seen a blue dog win its age group ever.

Just daily exercise....Make him work a flirt pole. That will tighten him up..

samething that makes our tummies tuck...lol

Cardiovascular exercise. The flirtpole gives good cardio as well as tightening up his front end, that is, defining the shoulders with the cuts that he'll be making chasing the flirt. If you can hand walk him faster (even run) and longer distances as well as feeding the right amount of the right food. I don't know how much he is eating now, but if you choose to show him, say in July, I'd cut back his food slightly about 2 weeks before the July 1st show in order to acheive this.

In the pics it looks like he has good muscle tone, but also looks likw he can do with a little less food. Start by cutting 1/4 cup out of his diet daily over the next 3 weeks leading into July and see where that gets you...

I just wanted to add about the flirtpole part. Before being worked with a flirtpole, you need to walk off as much excess weight as you can. Though Blue looks like he's at that point already, so he would probably be ok with it. But if a fat dog tries to run, chase, and make tight turns chasing a flirt, next you thing you know......*pop* there goes a ligament. Stress on the joints for overweight dogs increases a lot while the dog is working.

I've seen many people with BLUE's and this is probably the only one I've seen with a nice tuck:)! Keep on walking him to build him up for longer walks than start other exercises. You don't want to push him too much especially if he has never done certain work outs before. Most important proper feed!

Ya blue is not lazy but he does get tired fast so we have been walking and slwoly working the walka longer. I am just not comfortabe walking him round my neighbordhood due to loose dogs... reason I want to get him on the treadmill. But I may wait and talk him to the show in august and he def be ready by then lol

I'll answer this question assuming that the treadmill that you have is an e-mill...

start off running the mill with him around it, but with no intention of putting him on it. Just so he can get used to the sounds. Then progress to putting him on the mill without it running just to get him used to standing on it. Use treat and lots of encouragement at this point. Then you can progress to leaving him on the mill with a setting that makes noise, but doesn't move. Finally you can start progressing slowly until he is running for about 20-30 minutes. Good luck...

He is not as big as he looks in the pictures though... someon on another forum called him an american bully lol... I was like umm... he does... he's not short like them and he is def not BIG like them. I do agree he is more bully looking then the gamedogs though. Then again...he just my big ole puppy! but I guess he is a bully.... seeing as how from what I was told the Blue colored gene came from the american staffordshire

If anyone wants to give some insite?

I know that this will spark a debate, and may be slightly off topic, but the above is flawed logic and I'd venture to say whoever told you that is plum wrong. First of all canine color genes are just that...canine color genes. They are not different for dalmations, australian shepherds, or great danes. That being said if being blue originated as an amstaff gene then where did the amstaff genes originate? In other words...in what breed does that amstaffs lineage originate? You guessed it...the APBT. Indeed, there are blue dobermans, labs, etc...this gene could not have possibly originated with the amstaff in the 1930's. Research Jeff Runyon's blue dogs that he matched against Wallace's Searcy Jeff in the 1930's. These were not amstaffs yet, but were used in the foundation of that breed as far as Ive read. Also research the blue poll terrier...that was'nt asn amstaff either so blue could not have originated with that breed.

Now, while I do agree that bubu is a bully, and the color blue has been exploited in the last several years I can't agree with whoever thinks that the blue gene comes from amstaff. Again at one point in time the amstaff and APBT were the same dog. Selective breeding took its course for show vs performance, but color genetics are even across the canine kingdom. It may be accurate to state that alot of bullies are blue. Furthermore there is no "blue gene." Blue skin coloring is actually a modifier diluting the actual alelle which is black. So yes...a black on black breeding could produce a blue dog...this is where the myth of the rare blue came from although in recent years he has been bred for...

thank you for that input! its very nice to know. I do know that bubu has amstaff in him ... that is if I am reading his pedigree right that dogs with the * are the ones that are amstaffs?
