And Ch. Vengence above is 30 lbs in shape.
Smaller size can be found in all lines, but i notice it alot with the bolio dogs.
It can also be brought on by inbreeding....

There was a dog in the early 1900's that did real well who weighed 17lbs. Folks said he was the baddest dog to look through a collar. I never saw the dog, so I have no first hand knowledge.
I have a female, skull and nigerino, who weighs about 32#'s, and she would shock you. I also got a little carver bitch who is about 35#'s. But in reality, those weights used to be the low end of breed standard, and not exception. now there is no standard on weight, which is sad. When the registries start changing their standard, then you might as well say breed standard has been thrown out the window!!

Its interesting that you said that. My husband works with an AKC snob who insists the APBT is a trash breed because there is no height range listed in the standard. I wonder if imposing the "preferred" weight of 30-60 lbs as an actual fault for dogs outside that range would do any good.

In the breed standard, written, it used to be 40- 60#'s for males, and 30-50#'s for females, with adba. It is not there anymore. That is what I was speaking of. Over or underweight did not necessarily disqualify a dog, as there have always been a freak every once in a while that was a nice dog, but it was not the standard. As to the height, they are to be "proportional", not "16-18". If it was that tight of a standard, then the weight probably would not have been such a wide margine.
When the standard was originally penned, several folks sat down and looked over some of the top dogs and found characteristics that were common, and they looked at physical attributes that would complement a game dog and not hinder. A big fat dog is slower, and when push comes to shove will kill over from the heat. A small agile dog who is game will win in the end.(I am speaking from a historical aspect of course).
What is interesting from my observations is that the smaller game dogs are actually far better family companions than the lazy low riders. Even the hottest ones(as a majority speaking, there are always freaks) when seperated from other dogs will become a great asset to a family. Folks trip out on how much my little girls are a part of the care of my bulldogs.

I didn't know that. (About the ADBA standard previously having that in there.) Interesting! The UKC standard has a similar range. It says:
The American Pit Bull Terrier must be both powerful and agile so actual weight and height are less important than the correct proportion of weight to height. Desirable weight for a mature male in good condition is between 35 and 60 pounds. Desirable weight for a mature female in good condition is between 30 and 50 pounds. Dogs over these weights are not to be penalized unless they are disproportionately massive or rangy.
I personally wouldn't mind at all if the standard was tightened up to make the weight part a little less wishy-washy. (ie, an actual fault as opposed to a recommendation) But I don't think there would be enough support to make that kind of change. And in the meantime, folks will use the proportion argument to breed out-of-standard dogs, even as they make it abundantly clear that they don't understand what proportion means.
Then again, one could always point out that people breeding the oversized dogs aren't out there showing them, so a little thing like show faults wont stop them doing what they do. Still, it would be something.

I have had many boyles dogs I like the boys and they are honest dog men and a lot of boyles dogs run small. One of the baddest bitches Iv seen was a T-boy bred bitch at 31 lb. I tried to buy her on the spot but she was not for sale. But due to bad luck she died. I see a lot of small dogs the range around me is 30 -40 lb fm 35 -45 lb m. But we have had a lot in the 26s 28s. My best male was 37-39lbs. I like the dogs in the 35-45 range. Yis J
