Last night was the third time this year I have had to take a dead snake away from my bitch. She has a serious thing against snakes which I am not objecting to!! But maybe I should expand that to all the dead animals I have found in the backyard... snakes, birds, cats, squirrels.... this is a common thing, right??

the only thing i would worry about are the cats. don't want to piss off the neighbors. however, fleas transmit tapeworms. and as i'm sure you know almost all wild critters have fleas. secondly, if your bitch goes so far as say to eat a rabbit, well you can be gauranteed that a round of de-worming is in order. however, besides those things, if your bitch is up to date on all vaccinations it seems to not be a big deal. prey drive is not something i personally would discourage.

We won't let our dogs take a snake, even if it's just a black snake...
But if you aren't around, because they are an outside dog (which we have a couple), then I guess there is no way to stop them...

the only way i know she has something is because she nonstop barks at it. its a higher pitched bark that she does when shes messing with something, be it a dead animal or her food bowl. so far the snakes have just been two black rat snakes and one garter snake. the one last night was the biggest so far about 4 ft. i pick them up with a hoe and take them out the yard where i usually chop their head off even if they are dead. they scare me. as for the cats, we have a lot of neighborhood strays and the only cat ive ever found in the backyard was one of those. she did have MY cat one time about to kill it but fortunately, my boyfriend was home and we were able to save her. she is up to date on shots and i dont let her eat the dead animals.

Being from the south I would watch out for posinous stuff. It seems you guys are blessed with alot of that stuff. When I was staying at Kenny Allen's yard I had a dog (in the middle of the yard) whose head swelled up as big as a 5 gal bucket.I dont know what bit him, there was alot of black widows and rattle snakes.I gave him an anti inflamatory and some pain killer and in a few days he was fine.I sprayed all the house's(ALL 125 OF THEM) and the yard with bug killer. So watch out what they get.
