we just got a new pup from the humane society on tuesday. He is a happy lil boy but he has the sniffles. i mentioned this to the lady at the humane society and she told me he has already been checked and given the shot and assured me that he didnt have kennel cough. he is almost 5 months old, pit/boxer mix. i have heard that boxers are notorious for having alergies. i also have a friend who has a boxer and she gives him a benadryl when he gets that way (after vet check of course). i was wondering if i could give him childrens benadryl....

It doesn't matter if you buy a pup, are given a pup, or adopted a pup (or dog), you should ALWAYS schedule an appointment with your vet within 48 hours of obtaining the dog.
There could be several reasons why your dog has the sniffles, but worst case scenario could be a virus such as distemper. Even though the pup has been vaccinated against bordatella, it doesn't cover all strains and your pup could most definitely still have it, especially if he had it before they vaccinated him for it. It could also be allergies or the like.
What does this dog's vaccination history look like?
And in the meantime, get him in to see your vet!!

That would explain why the kid that worked at AC payed 9 dollars for his rabies and I payed $180 for mine. Gus was a reclaim and they busted my head wide open just because they could. Pricks...Those ppl will out right scam and lie to your face just to move those animals, they are nortorious for this. Most DVM participate with helping shelters and offer a free physical exam.
