Well I was just robed at gunnpoint no more than 2 hours ago. No BullShit! I dont know why but this got me to thinking. Would these assholes have robed me if I had one of my dogs with me. I know the apbt is not a protection breed and I don't own bulldogs for that reason. I was just wondering how manny times was some asshole thinking of doing something to harm me and thought twice about it because of the dog or dogs I was walking. About two years ago some strung out weirdo just up and walked in my apartment when my girlfriend was alone (& pregnet) He was making a B-LINE straight at my girlfriend, That is untill he seen my boy Big Game (80 pound scarry looking cur housedog/pitbull) He then promtly exited the building. I dont know ...... just thinking outloud I guess

It would most definatly detour a mugger IMO. Would you run up on someone with a crazy looking K-9? Not me thats for damn sure. I dont care what breed it is. My house dog Heidi is the sweetest thing in the world. She was never trained in protection work but if she feels like I or my lady are being threatened, she comes unglued BIG TIME. She's never bitten anyone because shes never had to. She growls and gets in between whoever is causing the drama and myself or Bri and that seems to work 110% of the time.

Its a damn shame a hardworking FAMILY man cant WALK home from his MINIMUM WAGE job without getting robed by two PUNKASS KIDS, who would shit themselfs at the mear thought of a fistfight. What happend to Jummping someone and robing them for there money. I wish these cowards would have gone that route. I can G-A-R -ON-TEE!! thay would have had a hell of a story to tell about ''A robery went wrong''. Im as game as these dogs but I ant a stupid man. Im coming home to see my daughter. ......And Ya know what sucks? I just got my new puppy last night. I couldent wait to get home and spend some time with the family and the new pup. My mood was ruiend to say the least. I was planning on posting some pics of the new pup tonight to share with you all, to bad my new digital camera was one of the things thay stold from me.

Most "professional" home invaders have zero fear of an alarm system. Almost 100% of them wont enter a house w/ a dog in it though. To much noise at first and to much noise to silence them. Dog is almost always a better deterant. Sorry about the stuff- Big Game, but for your fam, just glad youre alright. Friends of mine moved into a rougher neighborhood a bit ago, I took Hurricane (85lbs, HUGE dog) for a walk around their block everyday for the first week, and made sure every "tough guy" on the block saw me walk in and out of their front door. Id leave w/ him out the back so they would think his big ass was still in the house. Theyve yet to have a problem ;)

So sorry to hear about that, but glad to hear that you came away unharmed. Just remember that what ever they took material can always be replaced, something I am sure your family would not say about you!

My wife and I had a conversation about this the other night when we were watching a movie called The Brave One. In the movie the cowards got hold of their dog and beat the couple, the man to death and the woman damn near. All while the dog is barking at what is going on but never bit anyone. I don't think this would be the case with our breed, they are too devoted to family regaurdless that they are not people agressive. Just remember that damn thing called KARMA!

BigGame, sorry you had to go through that. I think if you had one of your dogs with you they wouldn't have even tried it. Cowards are cowards. They don't want to take the chance of dancing with a dog.

Yellaman, I did the smae exact thing. Everyone in the neighborhood knows that I have a dog. Like you, I've never had a problem.

Sorry that happen to you, I keep one of my bulldogs EVERYWHERE I go when I know I'm staying less then 30mins. that doesn't allow pets and ALLWAYS where they are allowed I just love being around them hell I take one to work everyday and they are protective but they know how to relax if there is no threat but thats just me.......

well as far as being robbed at gun point i think if the dog tried to attack the guy im sure he wouldve shot your dog and made off. now as far as home intruders i dont think many would break into a house with a dog, especially some pits or a larger breed. but having a dog with you lets say walking somewhere at night isnt a bad idea, or in a car especially since they will probably notice trouble before you would

hey just while we are on this topic have many people here had their dog protection trained? and if so were you happy with the results? and would u recommend it? i was considering this myself as we all know these dogs arent naturally aggressive with humans and would like a family guardian aswell as couch guardian

Damn big game I am sorry to hear about that. It is a shame that these lil kids are the way they are. Maybe if you had a dog they wouldnt have messed with you. But then again these kids have no fear, they might have killed you and the dog man. Just be careful and take care of yourself.. I would have rather you had a Smith and Wesson. that would have solved there problem. I want someone to come in my house my I leave my door open at night . I waiting for one of these fool kids to come up in here. Tired of living in fear... DAMN SHAME......http://www.game-dog.com/forums/images/icons/icon8.gif

Once again,Thanks to everyone for there kind words. Dont worry about me Im A-Ok. I was still a little shook up when I origanaly posted. The adrenelin hadent worked its way compleatly out of my system yet. I will be the first to admit, I was 100% pure Knucklehead when I was a little younger. I did some things I am not proud of. Taking things from people is one of them. Luckaly I grew up and cleened up my act. Back In them days I may have bullyed a couple people and took things from them (Weed pills etc..) But what I did was exactly that BULLYING and TAKEING. I did this to people I had personal beef with and my intentions were more to disrespect and embaris them than to ''Rob'' them. I never used any sort of wepon, I never jumped or ganged up on anyone. What I did was undeniably wrong and I am ashamed of it, but at least I ran the chance of getting my ass beat. I never have understood the mindstate nor have I ben able to tolerate a Thief. Or worse a guttless theif that hides behind a gun. Unfortanetly this is not the first time I've had a gun pulled on me. Hopfully this willl be the last. As for living in fear Nawwww not me. One good thing about being raised in the Hood is you are constantly surrounded by Thives,Fiends, and flat out Crazys. Danger is everywhare. You become acustom to it. Im no Prisner in my home. The only way back and forth from work right know is the Ol' heal toe express lol, and I intend to keep on useing it. Im lucky to be alive. When he first pulled the gun and went to put it in my face I instictivly grabed his wrist with the gun and wrestled with him trying to keep myself out of the path of his gun. At this time it dawnd on me that this probobly startled this coward who was robing me and might cause him to start fireing or cause him to shoot accadentaly. I then let go and let them take what thay wanted. The good lord once again shielded me and I pray he continues to do so untill I can get my daughter away from the envorment I was rased in. Big Game

I started to w/ my very 1st bulldog, he was more than with it and was learning well. I decided not to continue w/ it though, his tempermant was not the type that should have ever been used for the work. Rookie mistake on my part, but I still wouldnt recommend it w/ this breed. Malinois, or working Doberman oh hell yeah.

Never had to use him though. His presence was enough detterant. Buy as far as my girl goes, sleeve time whenever just to mess around. Not something I'm necessarily training her in.

then be carefull. Encouraging a dog during playtime (praise) to do something you might not want her to do any other time could have its downside, especially if she doesnt understand the LET GO portion. Hanging off a sleeve IMOH shouldnt be used as a reward or plaything if a dog isn't completely and 100% trained in other areas. Just not something to mess around with. Even the act of playing for fun is training, since dogs learn through play, too. On a positive note, there has been many successful Schuntzhund trained American Pit Bulls, and often these dogs excell more than the traditional breeds.

As everyone else has said I am so sorry to hear about your terrible ordeal OP!!!!! I have always said after dogs came into my life, I like them better than most people.

Buddy you made me laugh on the "long downs". When I was training my little AS for OB one of the drills was a 30 minute down (no other dogs around of course), but it would make me laugh because she would get so excited she would "tremble" on the down in anticipation of being released from the down. It made me laugh which she would see and make her want to act a fool which of course she couldn't......a viscous cycle, but funny as hell!!!!

Thanks but I have a felony (possesion) also If I'd had a gun thay would both be dead and I would run the risk of going to prison my damn self. I say this because. I couldent have pulled my gun wile there was a gun to my face and I would go to prison for shooting the basterds in the back as thay walked away. Big Game

Damn dude...that sucks. Sorry to hear about it. Can't do much about it now, though. :( And I thought I was having a bad day yesterday.

Hit me up tomorrow or something. Glad that you and your family are alright. That's what really matters.

Not in Michigan. According to our law here you have to make an attempt to flee before using deadly force. If there is no option to flee (being backed into a corner) then you can have at it. But you never, NEVER, shoot anyone in the back in this state. As a matter of fact the only time it is legal is if they are trying to burn down your home, thats it.
