a while back a gave a "friend of mine" a jip dog, good bred bitch, and he said he'd take good care of her, and this and that, well i go by there the other day, and she is about 20-25lbs underweight, scarred up on her legs, from where she jumped out his truck as he claims. well i take the dog, brought her home, and i got her hid out behind the shed hoping i can put weight back on her, i'm feeding her 2x a day, enhance dry food with a can of can food in it, with some red cell, and some vitamins crushed up in it. what is suggested to get this dog's weight on, and pretty fast, i don't like having an underweight dog on my yard, people know me for having healthy dogs, and if they see this, i don't want to be known for having an underweight dog.

u can't rush it, it will cause more harm than good. Do a search on here for something called Satin Balls, it will help to increase the weight, just remember don't overfeed, let the weight gain gradually, and always have plenty of water

If you have a good relationship with your DVM, get that dog in there. If not, dont risk your home. Don't let anyone see that dog for nothin otherwise, consider weighing it out! It's scary times ppl, use your better judgement. Good luck with that dog.

I would also suggest you deworm the dog if you havent already. You are bringing this dog into your enviroment.

Perhaps, if people KNOW that you have healthy dogs, maybe you can explain that you found this girl at your vet's office, noone claimed her so your bringing her home to care for. Just tell them she was a stray, and your trying to help fatten her up. Maybe even ask them for suggestions. I know it's a long shot, but maybe that way people won't be so quick to assume.

If you don't trust it, keep that girl in the shed or crated in the house, and only let her out to run at night.....

P.S. I have heard that if you feed yellow cake (no frosting, duh) that it helps to fatten up a dog. I had a friend who swore by it, but I've never tried. He always just used the boxed stuff (ie Betty Crocker).
