I just got pulled over by a police officer.....going 93 in a 50! Now, I know I was speeding, but I had no clue we were going that fast. So now I've got a court date set for the 19th. I think I'm screwed, anyone have any idea what could possibly happen from this?

Also, I've never been to court. Anything I should do or have or know?

God, this sucks! I feel like a jackass......

Well dont know about where you are but in Cook County (Chicago, IL) depends on the judge and what not but here you might get your license suspended plus fines etc... You wouldnt happen to know anyone of power would you? That might help but I doubt it going 93 in a 50.

see if you can get into a traffic school or class, sometimes going to those before court, can help.

I've never been caught going that fast, but one of my last tickets was for 82 in a 60. Honestly, I would take everything you have to a lawyer. If they can fix it, the additional cost will be worth it. Every ticket I've ever gotten cost me $200 or more to have handled by a lawyer -- $60 to the lawyer, plus the fine, plus court costs -- but I never got those points on my record.

I don't know how it is where you're at pip, but where I live if you're caught going 15 over not only can you get charged w/ speeding but also w/ reckless driving. So you might want to see if you can get a free consult from a lawyer to find out your state laws & options available to you b/c if they charge you w/ reckless driving & you lose, (as you most cetainly will) you may have a long row to hoe.

The only violation marked on the ticket is unlawful speed. It also has checked 'Infraction. Court appearance required, as indicated below. Under that it says I have to go to Traffic Court 1.

Any idea where I can find the laws online so I can see what kind of consequences I could be looking at? I'm in Florida.

you could possible be charged with carless and indangerment but get you a lawer and in missouri i belive one time you can get all the charges down to a fine for only one time for so many years. Like hey said get you a lawyer and he can probally get it downto a 200 to $300 fine.

Going that fast is probably reckless driving which means you could loose your DL, but it all depends on where u are from and the judge. Either way its going to cost a bit so I would try to get a good lawyer to try to reduce the sentence.

hard to say really but he might require you to take a class, it will help you keep your points. was it orange county or seminole? i dont know how many times ive had to go to orange county court house lol. when i used to have my turbo rx7, and my kawasaki 636 i got many many speeding tickets, & moving violations. o and BTW dont take the class from the block buster DVD, that thing is a pain..ive tried that one b4, the sit down class is much better...plus every class ive been too there was always a hot chick to talk to in it

Are you serious!!!!! you never plead quilty the first time you go to court which would be called a arainment where they read you your charges and so fourth. I have never had a traffic ticket. i have gottin felonys and misdeamors. So if it works like that this is how it is going to work. You will to court and have arraignment where they will read you your rights and what you have been charged with. Now if they charge you with anything that is not a felony then they will ask you how do you plea at least in michigan they do not ask you for your plea if you have been charged with a felony. DO NOT PLEAD GUILTY THE VERY FIRST TIME YOU GO TO COURT. Why is say this is for example. Say you got charged with a assault and battery well they willask you how do you plea and so on if you plea guilty the first time your going to be convicted on assault and battery and will be looking at up to 93 days in jail our probation for a year our so if you never have a record our had prevois assualts. Now if you plead not guilty they will give you a lawyer and your lawyer will look over the case and get it dropped to whatever. It can be jostling, criminal misconduct whatever. Now with it dropped say to a joslting your still looking at 93 days in jail if the judge is a coplete dick our a lowser couple hundred dollars. For the fact

Jostling- you can get just spitting on somebody so it is not that big of deal of a charge.
Assault and battery - intent to assualt a person and put your hands to do harm. 3 of these can lead you to felony charges and go to prison as in jostiling you can have 1000 and never get more then a year in jail.

So in term you dont have to be even slighty worried besides a fine unless they give you any misdemor our felony charges then you can possible go to jail. Dependingon the charge but never plead guilty first time on your arraigment if it a misdeamor our felony. Even if you get a felony pipbull if you where charged with reckless driving you wont go to prison our jail for a long time if you have never got in trouble. So just plead not guilty court will give you a lawyer work it out with your lawyer.

So I think I'm just going to be honest a straight forward with the judge and hope for the best. I clean up pretty good and can really put on the polite and professional act.

So just plead not guilty court will give you a lawyer work it out with your lawyer.well the way it was explained to me was if you did it you need to plead guilty because if you say not guilty and you are really guilty thats perjury. what you are talking about sounds like big time court deal, i just gave my ticket to an officer at the door, sat in a room with a bunch of people and they called out names and you went and stood in front of the judge and the cop who gave you your ticket was there and the judge said something like "(Your Name) you are here for speeding, going 84 in a 45. how do you plead?" and I said guilty and he asked the officer "do you wish to reduce the ticket?" and the cop said yes and then the judge said "i will drop your ticket to 4 points and $180." and that was it. i paid my fine and left.
