If you feed Nutro, please read the link below:

http://www.consumeraffairs.com/pets/nutro.html (http://www.consumeraffairs.com/pets/nutro.html)

This food is apparently killing dogs and cats that are fed it. Please forward this to anyone you know who feeds Nutro.

And here is the Government site with more info on recalled pet foods, updated Jan 22, 2008:

http://www.accessdata.fda.gov/scripts/petfoodrecall/ (http://www.accessdata.fda.gov/scripts/petfoodrecall/)

The scary thing is the Nutro dry kibble is not on the recalled list. But read that page in the first link. I would not feed that kibble, it's not worth the risk.

Yes, thank you so much. We are feeding our English Mastiff puppy Nutro Large Breed, but I guess I'll have to switch. But you can bet your bottom dollar I will be calling Nutro this week if I can.

Is there even a commercial dog food one can even safely feed anymore??!

** EDIT - I just noticed Nutro is not the only popular feed on the recall list. Other popular feeds like Diamond are on there - and why does that not surprise me, Diamond has been on every single recall since the recalls began . But anyway ... back to the point ...there are also other foods on there that members on this site use, such as Royal Canin & Costco among others.

So go to that list & check to make sure your dog's food isn't on it. And just b/c the canned is on the list but the dry is not does not mean your dog is safe. The thing that seems to be going on w/ Nutro right now is proving that.

I think I'll just start making my own dog food. At least I'll know what's in it.

I'd like to do that, but I have no idea how to do so. Plus, I don't have a freezer or anything store large quanties of meat in. :(

And believe it or not, Oprah's Vet designed a recipe for her and her dogs that will give you an idea of what you need. It should still be on her site. She has retrievers I think.

Thanks for the links China!!!!

I noticed on #2 he says include a well-rounded vitamin-mineral mix. What is a well rounded vitamin-mineral mix? Could I add some Clovite or a Pet-Tab to some raw meat & veggies? When feeding a large breed pup you really have to get your ratios right.

As for my APBTs, I feed them Black Gold. It's not the fanciest food out there, but it has never been on a recall list that I know of & thus far they're doing great on it.

Do you know if daimond naturals lamb and rice 40 pound bag is on the recall? I looked and closes thing was under the daimond catergory nutra lamb and rice. I was going to switch soon anyway but it would be nice to know since my dogs have been on this for a year plus.

I wouldn't feed ANY Diamond product. I fed my dogs Diamond for years too until 2 of mine died from a tainted bag during the last recall. Their death was a horrible one & I'll never feed Diamond again of any type.

But as to your question, YES, the Lamb & Rice is on the recall!!! In fact, it seems to be the only affected bag food Diamond has on recall right now.

But even if a certain flavor of Diamond isn't on there I still wouldn't risk feeding any Diamond food (or any food on the list at all) b/c if one type is contaminated, another type could be as well. After all, many types are made at the same factory & cross contamination could be a factor.

JMHO.

What have most of us been saying about grocery store brands for years?

They are tainted and killing pets every couple months. These recalls are nothing new, it amazes me people will feed from these companies as soon as the hush goes away. I've even heard "Well they had problems, so they are going to be testing their products much more seriously than any other feeds, so this is going to be the best from here out". No, it's the best for you're wallet until the vet bills and burial. These companies DO NOT care about animals, as soon as the bad publicity blows over, they are back to doing what they do best, making a profit at the expense of your animals health.

It's not worth the money you save, to kill a healthy and loved family pet!

We spent nearly 5k in vet bills, to save one who my partner ignored my warnings, and fed Diamond. He was the one we saved, lost multiple puppies too sick to fight the poision until the bloodwork came back!

You're feeding junk, overpriced junk at that. Pay a few dollars more for a quality feed, or you might as well buy the same stuff in a plain bag they sell for $10 for a 50 lb. bag and put the money you save into a savings account for upcoming vet bills!

I think the scariest part is all the people who tried to get it tested and no one would do it. These companies need to be held accountable. I understand it can get costly having just anyone call to get the food tested but if you have a vet backing you that should be enough. We as consumers need protection.

I don't feed and wouldn't recommend Diamond either. China's pups from two years ago were eating it and two of them were sick, but I took them right in and they made it. I have even gone so far as to tell people in stores that it's not a good choice.

dang i feed mine diamond, either high engery, performance or puppy, depending on which dog i'm feeding. but i didn't see them just the lamb meal& rice.
looks like i'm going to have to switch, was looking at the enhance hunters blend the other day, but the feed store don't have it half the time.
