This is a article taken from "Memiors of the Pit" by Jack Meeks..There are many interesting stories in this book that I would like to post, but they would conflict with the board rules..
"..When the conversation turns to the old time dogs and breeders it seldom happens that mention is not made of the Burke brothers,or Jack Burke..There were 3 brothers who were all bachelors, and their sister Jennie kept house for them..According to Miss Burke they were all born in Boston and lived there until Jack died on Feb 13 1904..After his death they moved to 39 Harborview St. Dourchester.Mass..Tim Burke died there on Jan 31 1906..Of Edmund Burke no further information is known..
Jack Burke was the real dogman of the family..For a time he worked for the city of Boston as a gardner..James A. Boutelle, who was a great friend of Jack Burke was one of the best informed men in the U.S. on the subject of fighting dogs a few years ago..In writing of Jack Burke he said,"No more honorable man ever lived than Jack Burke with whom I was interested in sport and business for more than 25 yrs.." Another friend of Burke says,"He was one of the best of all dogmen for keeping the correct breeding of all dogs in which he was interested.." Burke owned, bred and fought a large number of the most noted dogs of the time..Many of the best dogs living today are decendants of the Burke strain.."
