I wasn't sure were to post this so I'll go with dog dicussions. As many of you know, I thought I had found Rebel a good home. I told the guy he could always call me if he needed help or if he couldn't keep him, I would take him back. I had been checking up on him, but everytime I went, he would get so excited like I was coming to take him home, so I quit going for a while. 2 1/2 months pass. It's Christmas and I was going into town. I stopped to see him. Brought him gifts and he was nowhere to be found. The ppl in the house where he was had been evicted, thought maybe animal control had got him. Just didn't know. All the numbers I had for him had been disconnected. After two hours of knocking on doors and driving all over town, I found my boy tied to a tree with 3 feet of chain. He had no food, water, shelter. He was emaciated. My heart broke. The man living there said he had not seen the person responcible for his care in about two weeks. I asked him if it had been that long since he had anything to eat. No reply. I told him that it was unacceptable and I was taking him home. I unlatched him and said Come on Buddy, Let's go home. He got in my car so fast. I went straight to the animal shelter where I help out some. Karen put a lead on him and took him inside to weigh him. Only 51 lbs. He usually weighed in at 74 or 75 here. He is a big boy. She explained everything I needed to do to press charges, but it would be so complicated. The guy lived in one place, kept Rebel at another, and I found him somewhere else. I just know I could not leave him there like that. Even if I have to put him down, he will have been fed a good meal and will go knowing I cared enough to rescue him and that I loved him. The man there told me he was not his dog. I told him it was his property and therefore he was responcible for his care. If I had only known. I will never let someone have another one of my dogs unless I know for sure it's the real-deal. And it wouldn't have mattered if he was a beagle or a horse, it was abuse...period. It had nothing to do with the breed. Just needed to get that off my chest. It's been a hard day, dealing with idiots. I will post some before and after pics tommorow. He's just happy to be here with me right now and I'm just enjoying our time together. He still loves me.

Thank you. When Karen went to get a lead to weigh him, she saw I was very upset. Then she said "Welcome to my world." I don't see how they deal with it on a day to day basis. I would be an emotional reck. Three times a week helping out is a drain for me. I give Kudos to all that do.

It's sort of hard to tell in these pics. He wouldn't cooperate!
Notice the sore spots on his elbows from laying.

not to start something but i don't think he looks in that bad of shape as ur making it out to be. I'm sure the situation he was in was not the greatest, however he looks good at that weight. Quite frankly i believe he looks overweight in ur gallery so really i would suggest don't go crazy on overfeeding to try to get his weight back up. Another thing, again not start something, but those sores are present on the pictures in ur gallery from months ago, just an observation.

Honestly, I was thinking the same thing BoiBoi, so you're not alone there. His coat is in horrible shape and he is thin ...but emaciated? No. He still has muscle mass and a bit of fat left on him.
Don't give him too much food and water too fast since he hasn't had any for a while. Good luck with him, but I agree, he doesn't need to gain too much weight. 10 pounds, at the most.
Anyway, glad you got him back.

glad you found him but he really looks good considering your story.
There is a difference in working a dog to get it to the appropriate weight and starving a dog. Considering the dog had no shelter and the care taker had not been seen in 2 weeks, I'd say the dog probably had not been fed. But, he looks good though, right?
Glad you found him. I'm sure he is happy to be home.
Well I for one thing think he looks absolutely awful! His coat is just brittle straw & even in a pit weight dog you shouldn't have jutting shoulder bones & hip bones nor should you see all the vertibrae in it's spine! To even say this dog doesn't look that bad is insane! IMO he looks horrible!
I'm glad you got him back China!!

I hope y'all are not replying to what I said, because my post is being interpretted wrong, if so. I was just disagreeing that he was emaciated, that's all. I don't deny the fact that he is in very bad shape but not as bad as it sounded in the first post... However, as I always keep in mind, pictures can be decieving.

If this is what you are relating to, they were more or less just brown from laying, not sore's.You can see they have hair on them. And I agree the pics aren't that great, but he looked bad to me because I had been seeing him everyday since I had him. He has lost over 20 lbs. His but bone is protruding about an inch. Just looks bad to me. And I am feeding him slowly because I know about bloat and all.

Three more pics of Reb. He has been so good since he's been home. I put him out in the day and bring him in at night.
