Thanksgiving day my bully was hit by a car. He survived but his front right leg has no feeling in it. i took him to the vet and they said a nerve could be brusied or damaged. the vet said if bursied it'll heal up but if damaged they would have to take the leg. Has anybody experienced this before. he gets around fine with three legs but i don't wont his leg to be taken. do i have any options any advice would be helpful thank you.

well if it is damaged im afraid u have no other choice, unless u want ur dog hopping around with a limp leg for the rest of his life. I would do what ur vet suggests u do

If the leg is dead due to nerve damage, it needs to be removed. There are several reasons why.

1. If he cannot feel the leg, then the leg is prone to getting injured due to being dragged, being punctured by something, etc. If that happens, the dog won't feel it yet it can cause a ruthless systemic infection that could most definitely kill your dog.

2. Dogs are creatures of instinct. And instinct tells them to remove what is a hinderence to them. In laymen's terms: your dog will eventually begin to try and chew his own leg off.

Have it removed as he will be fine. I know........I've got a 3-legged Dogo Argentino that doesn't realize he's missing anything.

If you feel that your dog needs a second oppinion, ask for a refferal to a specialist.

The description that you are giving is vague.

My dog Knarl developed a big lump on his back leg. We thought it was a spider bite or at worst a staph infection. When the vet probed the lump we discovered that his bone was like sponge in that area. Turned out to be bone cancer. I had no choice but to have the leg removed all the way up to his hip. Knarl is 9 years old and 80 lbs. It looked horrible at first but it healed up fast and he got around like nothing had happened. If you have to do it, don't hesitate. It will make it worse in the long run. One thing about the breed, they can get over horrible wounds that would kill other dogs and go on to live happy, normal lives.
