my best jip just died one day she was fine, and the next afternoon i went out there to feed her, and she was laying in her house sick, couldn't really walk much, she was pissing blood, couldn't get her mouth open, had to pry it open to give her some medicine, left her on the porch, the next morning i went out there, and she was dead, picked her up to bury her, and blood started coming out her nose/mouth.
it was one of my best jips, good producer * edited for content. jaystreetsa4*she was pretty tightly bred. but atleast i have a male off her to keep the bloodline going.

sorry about your loss.
you need to get a biopsy done. Maybe it was a parasite?
keep an eye on your other dogs!
Sorry for your loss.
I think you should try to figure out what caused this as it may affect the health of your other dogs.
RIP girl.

Same goes here. She will always be in your heart. Sounds like something happened internally, but I not a vet. Sorry for your girl.

What did you assume it was? What medicine did you give her? Have you seen these symptoms before? Why did you not bring her inside for closer observation?
Sorry to hear about a good dog dying. I hope it was not owner negligence.

Thats the first thing I thought when I read this. After losing one of my dogs to cancer we practically live at the vets office. Anything seems out of place we pack the dog up and head out. Olered did that thought cross your mind that maybe your dog needed medical attention ? Thats bad judgement on your behalf, sorry the dog is dead but IMHO you didn't help it out much maybe the dog is in a better place now.

i'm very sorry you lost your dog. But i have to ask you, why did you let the dog stay on the porch from that afternoon, all night, until the next morning? Again, i am sorry but this to me is really unacceptable.
I can't even imagine the slow death that dog went through...

I was wondering this same thing. Sucks that you lost your dog, but seems like you could've done a little more.
hmmmmmm, as i'm still sitting here in my scrubs.... yeah, no vet visit? did you think she'd 'rounded a corner and was 'past the point'? (j/c)
any detriminable cause of death? tired as hell, but the brain is ticking as to the possibilities of why?
please update us if possible.....
really sorry for your loss....:(

when i discovered her, vet was closed, i called him at home, he told me it was probably heartworms, but i haven't ever heard of heartworms killing em all of a sudden. he told me to bring her in the next morning. he told me to give her some benedryl, but i just trying to figure out if it may have been something else besides heartworms. i had got her from a friend, who was getting out of the buisness, and i got him from her about a year ago. and she was very mature, good dog. she would talk to me lol, and i'd go out there, and she'd jump up in my arms.
her symptoms, pissing blood, white gums, dehydrated, i put her outside, was a fairly warm night, i got a enclosed porch, and i stayed up almost all night, the last time i checked on her was about 3 or so, and i fell asleep on the couch, was trying to stay up all night, woke up about a quater to six, she was dead. wish i could've stayed awake, atleast been with her at her last moments.
what does it sound like to yall that caused this?? do you think it could've really been heartworms?? or something else?? that's why i posted was to get some different opinions. i know one thing, from now on all my dogs will be on heartworm preventive.

I'm no medical expert, but reading the description makes me think she ingested something she shouldn't have which caused internal bleeding. Just my gut instinct; I really have no idea.

condolences Olered, I'll be watching this post closely, and hopefully, prevent whatever happened to yours from happening to mine. I guess thats the only good that will come out of this, but by keeping us posted, you might save a few dogs.

this is sad, you didnt provide vet care to a dog that showed being sick?? and now your original post is gone?? sorry, but i have no sympathy for you for treating your dog that way. this was something that could have been easily solved by taking the dog to the vet.

i have to say that acting lethargic as you say she was isn't always indicative of some major problem, but pissing blood definitely is cause to get to the damn vet. i thank God that i've never lost a dog to medical problems, but it strikes me as you being careless to an unacceptable level that you didn't take your beloved dog to the vet. careless and sad. i am indeed sorry for your loss, and without knowing the exact cause of death it's hard to say if she died from something that was treatable or not. but that doesn't really work in your favor as you never will know if you could have saved her.

what does it sound like to yall that caused this?? do you think it could've really been heartworms?? or something else?? that's why i posted was to get some different opinions. i know one thing, from now on all my dogs will be on heartworm preventive.actually heart worms don't kill them "all of a sudden". it actually takes a while for the symptoms to appear, (the time between the initial infestation of microfilariae and reproduction by adult worms living in the heart is six-to-seven months in dogs, typically) and when they do demonstrate themselves, at that point, (may take up to one year)the disease is pretty far advanced. symptoms: it appears as tho your dogs' heart is failing, i.e., you dog will act lethargic, find it hard to breathe, its belly is swollen. he/she may have bouts of coughing, possibly even blood, and their coats start to dull and lose their luster. it's actually a really shitty death, as the heart worms actually suffocate the heart, so it begins to fail, and eventually the dog dies.
preventative is easy.
here's some more info
"The worms grow and multiply, infesting the chambers on the right side of the heart and the arteries in the lungs. They can also lodge in the veins of the liver and the veins entering the heart. The first sign of heartworm infestation may not manifest for a year after infection, and even then the soft cough that increases with exercise may be dismissed as unimportant by the owner. But the cough worsens and the dog may actually faint from exertion; he tires easily, is weak and listless, loses weight and condition, and may cough up blood. Breathing becomes more difficult as the disease progresses. The progression is traumatic: the dog’s quality of life diminishes drastically and he can no longer retrieve a Frisbee or take a long walk in the park without respiratory distress. Congestive heart failure ensues, and the once-active, outgoing pet is in grave danger."
again, to, sorry for your loss. very sad....
here's a pic of an infested canine heart.

Sounds like she just got into something "bad". I lost a dog that way and almost lost my fiance's weiner dog to the same thing. My dog just started piss'n and $hit'n blood in the morning as well as acting lathergic* with white gums ect., she died that evening before I could get her taken care of. The next day the weiner dog "Zumo" started doing the same thing and the vet was open so we took him on in. Him and Sunnie had been in the house together and when I let em' out, I'd just let em' go outside alone :/. Apparently they found "something" to get into....the vet did all sorts of test on em' for worms, parvo, ect. and found nothing. They gave us some meds. for Zumo and he cleared up and was back to normal after about 2 weeks. But whatever it was, it hit em' fast...He told me to just give em' Pepto the next time something like that happened until I could get to the vet.
Sounds to me and by the symptoms you described, that your dog died of either Leptosporosis (spelling) or Babesia or something similar. White gums, blood in urine, dehydrated, etc are all symptoms.
A 5 day dosage of Oxytetracycline, 2ml once a day, would of taken care of that problem, even if it was that advance. See, Lepto will hit them hard but then it could also go away for a few days and come back again. The dog can be sick like that for a long time and maybe you didn't realize it, until it was too late.
I have seen this a lot and I lost one too from the same disease. If I only knew then what I know now, I could of saved her. (by the time the vet realized what it was it was too late).
Sorry for your loss man. May she RIP

she was fine, i took her running 2 days before, kept plenty of food and water, i take care of my dogs, she hadn't lost no weight, was a healthy dog, and i called my vet at home the night i discovered it, and he said to wait and bring her in the morning when he was open. so i didn't neglect to bring her to the vet. he told me to wait til the next day. so i stayed up with her as long as i could. i'm starting to wonder if maybe it wasn't foul play involved, but i haven't had any other dogs sick, but her pen was closest to the neighbor's yard. i had moved her to the pen from my front yard and had her in there about 3 or 4 weeks, about a week-week and a half before she died i killed a black widow spider that was residing on the bottom of her water bowl, and i found it when i took it out to change her water. i'm wondering if maybe the spider didn't maybe have a friend around, or maybe some littleones, and maybe one of them got her, but i looked her over and didn't find any bite marks.
i didn't neglect to take her to the vet, he told me to wait til the next morning. and my original post is still there.
