Okay.
So as some of you know i work as a dog groomer. i had this lady come in yesterday who shows her yorkies. Some of them are akc champions and she wanted to get their hair cut since they no longer show.

she saw a pit-bull we comming in for a bath, and she freaked out. Like how can you let those animals in here with all these dogs. i will no longer have my dogs comming her since now i know you guys take pit-bulls. I would never have my animal around a dog with a locking jaw.

i was just like wow ok. ma'am everywhere i have read it has said Locking jaws is a myth and we got in a big back and forth convo about it. and she starting going off on me about how can i own this breed. BLA BLA BLA.

i would think some one who shows her dogs for a living would have more knowledge about dogs in general. does she not realize when she takes her dogs to show that there are pit-bulls around and other big dogs that people seem to hate cause of the media.

she thinks i really care about losing her as a customer. even my manager was like i rather take 20 pit-bulls then your yorkie.

i have been so many times by yorkies when giving them a bath then i have by a pit-bull. i have yet to be bit while giving them a bath cleaning their teeth or even cleaning their ears.

i really wish people would see the amazing side of this breed and not the bullshit the media puts out.

I understand your frustration. I am a groomer too as well as a dog trainer. My boy Bane is my demo dog for class. He is really well behaved. I came up into the grooming room one day with him and I was standing outside the door waiting for two small dogs to be taken in back. This woman SCREAMED grabbed her dogs and ran outside the other door. I was like ummm ok and went inside and I see aroun the corner this woman is HOLDING the door shut. Now keep in mind my dog is doing NOTHING except standing there like wth was that about. So I take him in and put him in his kennel in the back. This woman comes back in and is going on and on about how she doesn't know if she will feel safe leaveing her dog around a pit bull. At this point I am just pissed. so in a crappy tone I said "It's not a pit bull it's an Am Staff" . This bitch looks all puzzled and is like oh ok I thought it was a pit bull and then hands over her dogs. I swear people piss me off sometimes.

So i got to talking to this one old lady who brought her dog in today and she was like what kind of dog do you have and i told her an AM Staff and she was like oh ok a pitbull. shes like you know i am truely scared of them. shes like but im trying to over come my fear can i meet yours. so i brought her out and this lady fell in love with her. Shes like the media truely made me scared of them but i see now its just how you raise them.

Out here they think amstaffs are pitbulls.I know I had an argument with a woman on one of the myspace groups, about how the American Pit Bull Terrier and the American Staffordshire Terrier are not the same breed. She said, "you can't say they aren't," and I replied, "I did, and they are." lol. I showed her a picture of Chinaman, a Amstaff Gr. Ch., and an American Bully, and said, "Honestly, you want me to believe that these three dogs are the same breed?"...We decided to agree to disagree.

The APBT and AST are 2 distinct breeds. However, the AST is a "pit bull" as there is not such breed as a "pit bull." It's just a generic term used to refer to 4 main breeds and God only knows how many other breeds and mixed breeds.

My aunt has bred and owned various breeds of show dogs for 30 years and was scared for my daughter when we decided the APBT was our breed. Anyone can be ignorant. Over the last 10 years we have proved her wrong and now SHE is the first one to defend our dogs. We can change the general public opinion even if it's only one person at a time.

It's in our nature to be prejudice and that's a fact! With more education and less fear and hate everyone would learn to love the breed just as it was American's favorite dog.

It's just a generic term used to refer to 4 main breeds and God only knows how many other breeds and mixed breeds.Yeah, I told her that as well. The lady was like Amstaff is the breed. There is no breed of APBT, and I said, "no, there is no breed, pit bull". It's a catagory which puts all of these breeds into one group: American Staffordshire Terrier, American Pit Bull Terrier, Staffordshire Bull Terrier , and Bull Terrier. She still didn't believe me. lol.

My Mom is afraid of most dogs, not just certain breeds, but she loves Notch. She now always sticks up for APBT and Amstaffs, when people try to make some negative generalization.
