nursing females nipples

I was wondering if you could use bag balm on a nursing female? Is there anything topical you can put on a nursing females nipples? The pups are almost 4 wks old and the dams nipples are scratched, torn, swollen, and look painful.

I felt so bad for the female I saw this weekend I wanted to find something to help heal and/or heal her.

You can also trim the puppies nails so they are not doing so much damage.
