I have a bobcat problem, for whatever reason they want to hang out in my back yard all night long. You can imagine what the dogs do when they see a big cat just chilling in their yard. They try to break down the glass door. Am I aloud to go buy a gun and shoot them or are them protected in someway? Do you think they will attack my dogs?

I don't know if they are protected , but you have to have some organization to call , and catch the bobcat without doing any harm to it , and then release it into the wild .
As for the cat attacking your dogs it could happen , and you will get a badlly injured dog i guess. I don't know anything more , because i am not familliar to the laws in US , but i don;t think you can just shoot it . Have you tried scaring it off , sounds etc ?

In Florida you can kill them Dec 1-Mar 1

Of course this is probably when they will disappear....

Yea, I have tried to scare it. I think it comes to get water out of our pond. My friend opened the back door the other day and one of the dogs flew out the door at it. He came back unharmed but I don’t want to risk it.

Of course this is probably when they will disappear.... Thank you Chia....that is what I was going to suggest...checking the laws int he area...figured you could kill them though...
Where I used to live, we would see then quite often, they bothered US...but there were a few times that they (2) got a hold of a neightbors dog..(it was tied)....they tend to be just as scared of you as you are of them...but when it comes to another animal, they can will attack fir whatever reason...
please be careful!

I am sorry but to shoot a bobcat because it wants water and is in your yard?IMO thats cruel .......
Call a wildlife organization to see what they suggest. I breed cats and some of my cats have bobcat in them. A bobcat can harm you dogs but not to the point of killing them. My female cat DeeDee 10lbs got in a fight with my friends bull terrier. some how she got into the bathroom with her ( deedee loves dogs) but I guess Pinky ( the BT) was trying to play to ruff. Anyways I can home to the scent of blood i opened the bathroom door and DeeDee ran out. Pinky's face was tore up scratches all lover her face. It looked like someone took a knife and made little cuts every where.

i wouldn't do that, i would just call up the game comission and find out what u need to do. I know im my state u have to apply for a permit to hunt them, u can't just trap it or shoot it, however because it is so close to ur house u can call about a nuisance animal and they should take care of it

I don’t want to kill it because it wants water. I like cats. I don’t like not being able to sleep because my dog is running head first in to the sliding door to try and get this cat. The thing is big (like maybe 35 pounds and almost as big as my dog)

I talked to them on my lunch break and they said there isn’t any thing they can do because “they won’t come sit out side my house and wait for it to come in the middle of the night”. Other then that they said I live in a heavily wooded area and because near by forests are being cut down there is just going to be more of them. Furthermore, they relocate alligators, raccoons and bobcats to my area when they are causing a problem more in the city.

well in that case do what u feel is necessary, try to trap it alive and then drive to a forest far away from the house and release it if u don't want to shoot it. Or if ur like me just shoot the damn thing and make urself a nice bobcat rug

I think I’m going to fill in the pond. I will give it a few days after that to relocate to another water source. If that doesn’t work I may have to have my husband shoot it (I couldn’t do it myself, I would probably cry like a little girl when I hit it)

Yeah, it probably was when my husband shot it! LOL
Filling in a pond seems like a lot of work and expense...I think I would go in a different direction...

It would cost a bit for the soil and to get a truck to drop it off. I wish they had some anti-bobcat spray I could put on the lawn.

Lol. The neighbors would never know. But I would probably miss and hit the neighbors behind me’s horse and be in a whole heap of trouble.

Lol… You’re funny. The woman’s got 25 horses she can spare one to the “Chupa Cabras with crossbows”. But one time we had a party. You don’t mix liquor and bb guns by the way. Well some of the boys thought it would be fun to shoot a bird that was in the tree. But being drunk, they missed the bird and hit one of the woman’s horses creating all 25 of them to stampede around. Needless to say the woman was pretty mad.

Cause I would tell them if the cats hurt one of your kids which would be an enormous problem and you will sue the county for eveything it has.

I would fill in the pond, this probably wont be the last one to come visit, plus you really don't want to attract other critters like raccoons and skunks that are Rabies vector species.

Yea that’s what I was thinking. The dogs stay inside most of the time. They do have chain setups outside and spend a few hours out there when I’m home but I moved it all to the front yard mostly because of the bobcats (I think it would be less likely to come to the front of the house to attack the dogs). My neighbor across the street hates it though. He has already made it clear to me he hates APBTs now he has to see them when eve he looks out his window.
It sound to me you kind of live out in the woods.A .22 rifle would work perfect not alot of noise and you get to keep you're pond. Plus a bobcat makes a pretty mount.

Yes a Bobcat can and will kill a dog. My brother lost a dog in his garage about a month ago, poor baby all that was left was a jaw bone and a huge mess. Do what you have to do to protect your own.

Man that would be horrible. I have 3 kittens and a mama cat in my garage. Now that the kittens are getting older they like to run out when the garage is open. My husband freaks out every night thinking that this one black one is eaten by the bobcat. But she is always hiding someway safe in the garage and we find her in the morning.
