GREAT topic! princess boudicca could EASILY! have a 20generation pedigree meaning there would be over 2,097,152 ancestors! the best part is once you start getting into the latter generations there ALL called pitbull this and that! in england you were only aloud to call your dog a pitbull if it had fought and won in a pit. i can go back to every dog i have ever had on my yard as breeding stock.now by this i mean since i keep most all of what i breed everydog on my yard i can go back to my very first brood bitch and stud dog and then of course what was behind them.i keep very meticlious records wich is why i am so very protective of them.

It's difficult to go back very far with real proof. There is a lot of trust involved with any given pedigree. To personally witness every breeding and whelping past the 5th or 6th generation of a dog's pedigree is an extremely rare thing.
I think it's very misleading that such a high percentage of Game-Dog users answered "12 or more" in the poll.

a ten has 2048
a fifteen 65, 536
a twenty generation pedigree has 2,097,152

my dogs pappers are NEVER ending! there 5 generation . you get to the 5th row and theres 32dogs, each one of these dogs you can trace back another 4-5+ pedigrees each one 5 generation. with every pedigree having 32 dogs to follow its pedigree make its pritty much never ending. but theres alot of the samedogs in those pedigrees as we would only breed with the best dogs!

These dogs been around for hundreds of years. That is ALOT longer than you have been on this earth. What about the dogs from your stock? How do you know that a dog hasn't been crossed into your stock before you got your hands on them? YOU CAN'T!

Well he kept putting our dogs down and I sent him a site on SBTs but he stayed so now he goes ;)

over 2 million??? Yes that would be correct. As I was told by my breeder, if you start out with getting paid 20 cents a day and double it every day by the end of 30 days you would be a multi-millionaire.

Try it out and you will see that is true. Remember for evey 1 dog produced they had 2 parents who has 4 grand parents and then 8 grand parents now keep going 20 times and you will come up with that number.

Well by Colby's information i can go back more than twelve as my dog is from Stewart's Colby Sam. But im not a trusting person. I have only seen three generations bred on most of my dogs, four on a few.

If they are all from the same place sure, but numbers do not lie in this case. If you take 20 generations of a dog or even people keep double your number 20 times and you get over 2 million. Yes some dogs show up a few times in a ped that I agree with but if you never inbreed you end up with that many people in a family tree or dog pedigree.

Not fighting with you just showing ya that it is most definitly possible.

Ok, so I'm not sure what to put. As said earlier, papers are just papers unless you were there to verify. That said, I can verify 3 generations. I've actually laid my hands on dogs as many as six generations back, but I was too young for me to say that I can know with any certainty who was bred to what...at that point, it's just a matter of trusting the breeder. Of course, since the breeder was a family member, I have the utmost trust, and since he was the breeder for many many generations I suppose I could say that I can trace dogs at least back to the sixties....but I think I should just say 3 cause that's what I have witnessed in my lifetime.

Unless you get your dog from a reputable breeder. And mine was somewhat a rescue so I did not research the breeder myself. Talked to him seems like a stand up guy.
