Diamond Dog food?

hey guys, i have been feeding my male pro pac for about 6 mo. and then a local breeder told me to switch to Diamond lamb & rice, he said that the pro pac keeps them too lean, i made the switch and it is a little cheaper, just thought maybe you guys could suggest a better food, and maybe a site to order it from. my male is 20 mo. very healthy and about the right weight. i will post pics soon.

I have one question for you. Why would you change your dog's diet when he was already in good health? Never mess with a good thing. To me when it comes to diet, you have to stay on key, one change could mess up a good thing. If I were you, I would just stay with the brand you are using. Oh and there is nothing wrong with having a lean dog. I would rather have a lean dog than a fat one, or some overly bulky dog. A leaner dog is A LOT quicker and more agile in my opinion.

We feed Diamond and a mixture of the BARF diet especially throughout the winter months...

Both are comparable ingredient wise (Pro Pac slightly better). Neither one are designed (ingredient wise) with a carnivore in mind.

I've been feeding Diamond Lamb and Rice for a few years now with excellent results. I notice less shedding, etc than with most other foods and I noticed no difference then when feeding the more expensive brands like Canidae, etc

Another food I really liked however and had excellent results with (I start pups on it) is Chicken Soup For the Dog ...(Puppy) and its put out by Diamond first 4 ingredients are meat, plus Omega 6 and 3 , etc. I beleive it is around the same price as Canidae.

I also howver add fresh meat and veggies twice a week and up the fat during the winter

I find that hard to believe. How long did you feed Canidae? There is and will be an adjustment period with switching any foods.

Chicken Soup is a premium type of feed. But why start your pups out on a high quality food, then feed them sub-par feed their adult life? Makes no sense.

my personal experience with diamond was not a good one with my female. she started using the restroom more than normal. still doing some research on some foods to see what food I want to switch her to.

can you please explain what a BARF diet is?

Same here can some one type out the barf diet as well would liek to try it. My dog are eating Diamond dog food as well, it seem to be the popular choice for most people i know that own pits.

BARF====Bones and Raw Feed. No dog kibble. Just an assortment of meats (always fed raw otherwise the bones will hurt the dogs and by cooking the meat we are killing alot of the nutrients in the feed) and other raw foods. When we feed the BARF diet, we feed 5days per week of just meat, Mon-Friday, Saturdays we feed a "slop" mixture of veggies, tuna, and occassionally some nice warm rice or pasta and Sundays we fast. The BARF diet is the best diet my dogs have ever been on and never have they looked as good. We are in the process right now of going back to the BARF diet as deer season is here and I'll have meat in abundance from my butcher. The pups we've had while feeding this, have come out looking the healthies and most well structured pups we've had as there in nothing not natural in this diet, basically its a diet similiar to what the dogs would eat in the wild as they are carnivores...

Its damn near free when ya got a cool butcher like mine ;) Plus you can go to places and get boxes of chicken backs (even Walmart or grocery stores) for real cheap...usually like 40lb boxes...ends up cheaper than kibble.
