Alot of us here has seen the threads and posts of PhillyPitty. I want to stress this to ALL those out there owning their 1st bulldog or those thinking of purchasing one. The staff members here have said countless times to newcomers to the breed that you must do your research before going head first into owning a bulldog. You can never have too much knowledge as I've said before. Our breed needs responsible owners, not those that purchase a bulldog for looks or to look cool amongst your peers. There are to many unwanted and mistreated pups out there. When you see these stories of "bulldog attacks so and so" or "cops find 12 bulldogs under nourished"; who's fault do you think it is??? Its not the bulldogs fault at all; its irresponsible owners that let this happen. Before any of those here looking to purchase their 1st bulldog or those that just got one;the staff here will be more than happy to answer any questions you have about our breed. Don't hesitate to ask. No one is here to ridicule you. The only dumb or stupid question is the one not asked. We all have one common goal here at GAME-DOG.COm and that is to have fun while educating all about our wonderful bulldogs!

I couldn't agree more. I grew up around an APBT, friend's brother owned it. I also owned a dog from the toy group...totally different from a bulldog. For the past 2 years, I read everything I could on APBTs, AmStaffs, and Staffords. Researching as much as possible to determine if a bulldog was for me. Finding this forum has been a great asset of information as well. It's never to late to learn something new about this breed or information that will greatly benefit you.

GREAT POST
I jumpred right into Bulldog ownership and got lucky. I ended up with a gog with a heart of gold and a great perosnality. As a truck driver we spent so much time together he almost trained himself to me. But that said great post's after getting him I fell in love with the breed and have encountered way to many toughs, 100lb+ monsters, and dogs abandoned in shelters or roaming the streets.

I read everything about bulldogs I could get my hands on before getting my first pit and while he was growing up, and I had the breeder just a phone call away to answer all of my questions. But still nothing prepared me for living with a high drive (yet very intelligent and affectionate) dog. You kind of think you know what you are getting into, but the reality does not hit home until your four month old pup picks out a dominant 120 lb german shephard out of about 20 dogs in a dog park and scratches right into him (I got one heck of a stink eye from the shepards owner for that stunt - and I will skip the story about when at about five months of age he jumped off a first story balcony and started pulling hair out of a borzoi as her owner was screaming at the top of her lungs.) So my advice to any new bulldog owner is prepare for the unexpected and do everything you can to keep your dog safe. These guys are faster than cats if there is something on four legs that they are interested in.

Someone said great post and not everyone should own this breed. Agreed across the board. But any can still get them and breed them and do other stupid things with them. Being as we have no control on who owns them maybe there should be some laws on what they must first do to own an APBT, or any other breed of dog and cat. If not a breeder or show or other, then spay/nueter, micro chip with double registration. They also need a copy of current animal laws in their community. They also need from the selling party an understanding of what it may take to own this or any breed of canine, suach as training and common sense.

i researched the breed for like almost 3 years before i got my second one because the one that i had picked up the streets died a few days later

Bite hard and shake. Is this the kind of message we really want the general public seeing? I am not bashing any one person but this kind of attitude is too great in the bully community. I read this on the 2nd page of this thread. Maybe a shirt that says life is to short for anything less than a pit would be more approprate. Some people are fighting battles with legislators who wish to ban the breed from existance and they to go to sites just like this one or thier aids do. I hope that we all can think in a more positive manner when addressing our affections publicly for a breed we know to be the finest on four legs.

I owned all kinds of breeds of dogs except the pitbull for many years before getting my first one. At the time the guy I was dating wanted one so bad he could taste it. We had friends who bred bullies. We fell in love with the pups two were blue since both parents had blue in thier bloodlines. But I wanst sure if I was ready to be a bully mom yet or not so we kept visiting and spending time with the pups and the parents and grandparents and watching how they all interacted with each other and children. Seeing that all the hype wasnt true,I was pleased to purchase my first bullie, a black and white that we named Dorris' Bocephus Rebel. Which led to the purchase of two more bullies to add to our family. Needless to say this site has helped me greatly and I continue to learn.

Just remember all the reading and learning in the world is never enough. Nobody knows enough and the ones who say they do just show ignorance...good post knock we need more people like you to point out these things, I hope none of us ever stop learning because the day you do is the day youll die. These dogs deserve it, they give us their lives courage and respect, the least we can do in return is dedicate our lives to research and education in their honor.

I have only been looking at this site for a week and learned a lot. I have owned two Pit mix dogs before I got my first pure. I have had plenty of other breeds of dogs and just like this breed more than any other. The pup I have isn't papered (her father is) but I have plans for her and maybe when I can afford a game-dog I will get one, when the kids are a bit older.

when I can afford a game-dog I will get one, when the kids are a bit older.Don't fool yourself, thinking that you'll get a Gamedog as a "playmate", or "companion" for your other dogs. There'll come a day when the Gamedog will need to be seperated fromt eh others, or you could end up with a huge dilemma, and possibly injured pets. Unless you're prepared to keep them apart, or deal with the inevitable altercation, I would suggest keeping what you have, until their days are done before getting a true Gamedog.

very true!!!, my dog aint but 4months and 2 weeks and she is biting off way more then she can chew with my male pit mix, the only reason he aint put her in line is because i go outside with her, she is tryin to get big with my other dogs over treats anything, they have gottin a hold of her but she goes right back, these dogs think and know that they rule others, and aint scared of nothin!!! be careful, just advice that i didnt take to heart when i first herd it.

I know and understand that these dogs were not meant for other dogs. I don't really want a companion dog I'm just looking for my nitch into this breed. Maybe a game dog maybe a show dog depends on what the future holds. I know all to well that they have to be seperated and that is probably what is going to happen between Halo and Paris. They are both females and I understand that same sex dogs in this breed do not do well together.
