Need some suggestions!

I live with my brother that has a little bit of land and he has chickens in the country side. The problem we are having is there is a coyote that has been roaming the land in the forrest/bushes and my brother has seen this coyote eating our baby chicks. My dogs go crazy once they smell the coyote close and one time I let one of my female's go after it but wasn't successful. I know that it was "STUPID" letting one of my dogs go after it because they travel in packs but this one is a loner. Any one have any suggestions on what we can do.

Keep all the chickens in a hutch/pen.

And never send a dog after a coyote. Chances are you are going to end up with a mutilated and possibly dead dog (or even a rabid one as the number of wild animals carrying rabies is drastically rising).

well... i think this is a very easy problem to fix....

SHOOT IT.... pump a couple rounds into it... they run on a sorta schedual so he should be showing up at least around the same time/times everyday....

sit on it and wait.... you see him and spread brain matter all over the lawn...

that will take care of it....

put your chickens in a good pen and hutch.get a 22lr rifle or a 17 hmr but i like a 22lr better because rounds are cheaper then buy 1 box of every brand available at your local gunshop or wal mart.then fire a few rounds from each box at targets labeled wich target was hit using wich round select that brand that does best in your rifle keep the rest for reserve or just plinking.head back to gun shop or wally world but buy a case or 2 of the ammo that does best in your new rifle and then sit and wait up in a tree or from your house where ever you have a good vantage point with decent cover is where you should be.then when cyote comes in to get chickens shoot in head or other vitals.end of problem and damn fun as well.can not beat good varmint hunting,and you don't even have to leave the property.

I have birds also and i had that problem.Some of my best rooster where eaten.I set poison chicken meat in a coon trap or where you think the coyote comes from put some in the path.But be careful .your dogs dont eat the meat and wash ur hand afterwards.If you dont wanna do that set up a senser light.Onces the light goes on he will run off.Hope this helps a little.

Traps don't work and besides when their paws get caught they get free after struggling (markings on the dirt for proof). Posion has been put of some meat to get them into the traps but after a few weeks they just keep coming back. Shooting is last resort because my next door neighbor is a cop who is an acre away.

Then call the Wildlife AR they will take care of it.
Tell your neighbor cop what the problem is, and I am sure he just might help you....or at least understand!

hey bro u can't shoot them things in PA unless it is varmit season, I would call the PA Game commission and tell them there is a problem animal around and they will either send someone to catch it or they will issue u a problem animal permit that allows u to kill the thing. They give those permits to farmers here in PA that have problems with animals destroying the crops and what not. However if it was me i would find his tracks and set up my climbing tree stand near the tracks and wait around with my compound bow in hand, as soon as he gets close WACK and its all over nobody has to know a thing. Shoot if u don't live too far from me i'd come by and do it myself

Call neighbors, tell them to keep all animals inside. Kill one of the chickens, slice it's breast open, and inject some poision. Throw it out in the field. I will not mention what poision specifically is used, but will say...check by local streams and keep all animals inside for awhile. Bury the corpse...deep. Dieing animals naturally head for water sources, so frequently check ponds/streams/river banks...that sort of thing. I guarantee you, they are not coming back "in a couple of weeks" if you use the right stuff. It will kill 3-4 cycles down, so caution is absolutely imperative.

That is the only thing that works effectively. Too smart for most traps, too sly to shoot, and too dangerous to send most dogs out after.
