You can also change the food. Inova makes an Evo in reduced calorie. It is 52% protein and only 15% fat. Good food with some hard work should get your dog where you need it.

Just remember to watch the dog. You can do everything everyone tells you to and still have a glitch if you dont pay attention to how your dog is reacting. Try some chicken (raw) with your kibble and a little bit of Omega3 all natural penut butter and some fish oil pills (1 per feeding) with about a cup and 1/2 of water in the food along with some good steady road work and you should see results pretty quick. I know I did.

I switched to TW and walk 2 miles minimum 3-5 days per week and the extra weight came right off.

Remember to keep the fat in a dog's diet though. They will use the fat as an energy source and a lack of it will make them apathetic. I know from experience.

I agree...your dog will burn fat before protien...so low fat is not good for a dog...Your dog will, in turn, burn all of the fat and start burning the protien in their body and you will start losing muscle as well.
I work my dogs as often as possible in 45 or so minute increments...Flirt pole, road work, walking, swimming, dead weighting, etc. I watch their food intake...they get the same amount daily and are on the same food...

Good point.....cutting fat while trying to lose fat.weight is the wrong way to go. The body will actually store it as it goes into what I like to call "survival mode".
It is a big mistake that most make when people try dieting or try to lose weight, the reverse happens.

Give the dog healthy fats and bump up the cardio....e-mill or roadwork with a bike works for me. Maintain a good fast-paced trot for an hour, watch for any injuries or pulled muscles while they work and keep them hydrated!
