I know there's alot of different foods out there. My question is this: Do different breeds get different foods, depending on what the breed is going to do (i.e. working dog, herding dog, hunting dog)? Or, can a chihuahua eat the same food as an apbt (just using these 2 breeds as examples)?

I would think feed with as high protein as Evo wouldnt an optimal choice for a small breed dog like yours but I could be wrong

I still believe feeding any dog that amount of protein may hinder their kidneys as they age but I have no real proof of this, just opinion

IMHO...

Most working dog feed is very "hot" and contains a good deal of fat (and protein) to make up for what is lost as the working dog performs whatever we demand of it. While you certainly could feed the same food to a champion couch potato, it would just be difficult to keep the dog's weight down.

That said, good food is good food. I know a lady who feeds Timberwolf Wild and Natural to her moderately active JRTs because she likes grain-free food. She just feeds a lot less.

i feed clutch canidae ... and i turned my mother on to it she has a three and a half year old pug... as was said before she just feeds less and excersizes her a little more... she seems to be fine on it her coat espesially ... but switching from the crap she was on heck anythings better haha .... just my two cents...

as far as the point you brought up about the kidneys..that's a good point. I'm going to put a call in to my vet.....thanks....

About two weeks ago I started switching both of my dogs (APBT pup & 5 yr old JRT) onto Canidae All Life Stages. They were on Diamond Lamb & Rice Puppy & Dimaond Chick & Rice Small Breed Adult.

I am very happy so far with the results.

(I started a thread about switching my dogs in the health section, I've just been to lazy to upload my pics & type out my notes)

But, overall, they both have less gas, their stools are MUCH firmer already, my JRT shits like clockwork right after he eats twice a day, and I swear I can see some more defenition in Aubrey even if she's laying on the top of her house doing nothing. I can't really tell you how it's affected their coats, skin, eyes, etc yet, but they get attacked with the hose every few days so they are never fresh & clean anyways.

They're still on 1/2 old 1/2 new food, and will be all the way on Canidae in about a week.

The JRT is a very active mutt and is doing good on the same feed as my APBT pup is so far. So in regards to your ? about a small dog doing good on a feed for working dogs, I guess they could do fine. An inactive dog might not benefit so much. My JRT is hovering around 18 lbs right now, and get a 1/2 C at 6 am & a 1/2 C at 6 pm. Depending on how he does on Canidae all the way, He might get cut back to 3/4 C a day from the 1 C.

We feed the chi the same feed we feed the bulldogs. I do not know if it is the feed or just him, as he is very active. We have fed him the same feed since we got him, and we free feed him, so he has never ate too much, just what fills him, and that aint much anyhow. I personally havent seen issues with high protien/fat in any of my dogs, but some folks are wiser than I am on this issue.
They say in a car AC that if you switch from r12 to r134a that you must change the compressor and the dryer, etc or it will cause the compressor to fail. In theory this is true, but in real life if it a strong vacume is pulled, all I have ever done is change the oil in the compressor, and the fittings, and have seen them go for 6 years doing well, cant say for afterwards, as I sold the vehicle.
I cant see what quality feed would hurt your chi.
