I have a question for those of you like myself that keep your dogs chained out.. If you don't have a fenced in property and keep your dogs on chain spots, what do you do with your females during their heat cycles? Do you keep them on chain or do you kennel them up?

Although I know some people that just keep them on the chain. Usually if anything at all is in their yard, the dogs will sit there and bark until it leaves. Needless to say that if there's constant barking, the owner goes and checks to see what the commotion is about. Doing this they can tell if a stray is back there. Dunno what they do while at work though.

my boyfriend's Dad made a special place in the barn where no dog can get in or out (all at different times, he used to breed beagles and dobermans). When Tess' heat cycle is coming around, we go up there, look for any weak spots, fix them, and Tess stays up there. We check on her daily and the area daily, take her for a short walk in the field, and then back in there she goes.

I'll keep em' chained or pin them up if a have an open one. But if a dog strays in my yard, it usually wont make it back out on it's own...

Mine will come inside...I know of people doing the kenneling, but if the female is loose, a male can still get to her from outside of the kennel, especially if you have a female who will back up to a male.

We are far enough out in the sticks, we are able to leave them on the chain without worry of strays.

Anywhere closer to town, or with neighbors and dogs, I'd probably kennel them inside.

I kennel mine inside when they are in heat.
