Sportsmen nationwide called to take action

May 31, 2007 (National)

(Columbus) Microsoft has rejected a U.S. Sportsmens Alliance request to abandon its partnership with the nations leading anti-hunting organization.

Microsoft, the software giant, will make a $100,000 donation to the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) and is partnering with the group on a pilot program called the im Initiative. Through the new program, whenever a Windows Live Messenger user has a conversation using im, Microsoft will give a portion of the programs advertising revenue to one of ten organizations selected by the user. The HSUS is one of the choices, and there is no limit to the amount of money that can be donated.

The U.S. Sportsmens Alliance, the nations leading sportsmens advocacy organization, has urged Microsoft to end its support of HSUS, but the company refused. According to Microsoft representative Tara Kriese, Microsoft believes the im Initiative is a great way to enable people to help causes that are important to them.

Microsoft is going to pour hundreds of thousands of dollars, probably more, into an organization that recently issued a manifesto that targets hunting for extinction, said USSA President Bud Pidgeon. If there was ever a time for sportsmen to take grassroots action, this is it.

Sportsmen should contact Microsoft and demand that its financial support of HSUS be terminated. Contact Bill Gates, Chairman, Microsoft, 1 Microsoft Way, Redmond, WA 98052. Phone: (425) 882-8080. Fax: (425) 936-7329.

The Humane Society of the United States opposes all animal use, including trapping, hunting and fishing. It was a key player in the campaigns to outlaw dove hunting in Michigan, trapping in California, and black bear hunting in Colorado. The organization has created a hit list of hunting traditions that it hopes to dismantle, including bear hunting and hunting with hounds.

The HSUS already has a multi-million dollar budget that it invests in legislative and ballot campaigns to ban trapping and hunting, said Pidgeon. The partnership that it has formed with Microsoft, the maker of the Xbox, will allow the organization to make money hand over fist, and continue to fund efforts to ban outdoor sports.

Sportsmen can make a difference in an issue like this. Companies such as Iams, General Mills, Accor Hotels, Pet Safe, Sears, and Ace Hardware ended relationships with HSUS after thousands of sportsmen levied strong protest.

In 2002, Jeep raised the ire of sportsmen when it aired a blatantly, anti-hunting commercial called the Deer Hunter. After a flood of sportsmens contacts, Jeep pulled the commercial in three days.

The U.S. Sportsmens Alliance is a national association of sportsmen and sportsmens organization that protects the rights of hunters, anglers and trappers in the courts, legislatures, at the ballot, in Congress and through public education programs. Nope, But I will not purchase any new games or consoles from MI. What I suggest is a boycot for a couple weeks . Ofcourse it would have to be organized. MI is not going to crumble , however affecting thier sales might hit home for Bill Gates.

I mean, just take a look at what this guy donates: (obviously he has way more money in his account than what he's just donating)

$1 billion over 20 years to establish the Gates Millennium Scholarship Program, which will support promising minority students through college and some kinds of graduate school.
$750 million over five years to the Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunization, which includes the World Health Organization, the Rockefeller Foundation, Unicef, pharmaceutical companies and the World Bank.
$350 million over three years to teachers, administrators, school districts and schools to improve America’s K-12 education, starting in Washington State.
$200 million to the Gates Library Program, which is wiring public libraries in America’s poorest communities in an effort to close the “digital divide.”
$100 million to the Gates Children’s Vaccine Program, which will accelerate delivery of lifesaving vaccines to children in the poorest countries of the world.
$50 million to the Maternal Mortality Reduction Program, run by the Columbia University School of Public Health.
$50 million to the Malaria Vaccine Initiative, to conduct research on promising candidates for a malaria vaccine.
$50 million to an international group called the Alliance for the Prevention of Cervical Cancer.
$50 million to a fund for global polio eradication, led by the World Health Organization, Unicef, Rotary International and the U.N. Foundation.
$40 million to the International Vaccine Institute, a research program based in Seoul, South Korea.
$28 million to Unicef for the elimination of maternal and neonatal tetanus.
$25 million to the Sequella Global Tuberculosis Foundation.
$25 million to the International AIDS Vaccine Initiative, which is creating coalitions of research scientists, pharmaceutical companies and governments in developing countries to look for a safe, effective, widely accessible vaccine against AIDS.
Do you really think that 20 people not buying Microsoft products are gonna have any type of affect? I hate to be a cynic, but it's reality.:(

I think Bill Gates is pasionate about his charities..... impacting communities. i realize that it would take an organized commitment to boycott MI products for a couple weeks. Project like that is much bigger than I am.....but to say that it couldnt happen, well there are alot of MI haters out there too that would love nothing better than to dent MI proffits.

After all this is just a suggestion.

The only game system I own is a PS I and an NES original.
The problem is that the Bill and Linda Gates Foundation is so HUGE and has so much money (which equals power ) nothing can stop them.
All that money they donate every year is mostly interest they earn on the 10 billion they had left after pay something like 30 or 40 billion in fines. They don't ever really touch the core of their money.
