I ran into a nurse I used to work with today,And we started talking about the dog food recalls.Anyhow,he started telling me about how he feeds his orchard guard dogs raw meat with whiskey!?!Has anyone ever heard of this? The dogs he was reffering too are supposedly "pit-bulls",allthough from what he tells me about them, and what I've heard about most pit's in Cali, they are probably just mongrels. But anyway,Why would you feed your guard dogs whiskey?

stupid people have fed sucky dogs gun powder, hot peppers, and alcohol..for years..trying to make them meaner..just stupid people..
Whiskey probably makes the dog's gut burn & makes him irritable as a result. They interpret this as "meanness" but in all reality the dog probably just doesn't feel well.
The same result is obtained by feeding the dog tabasco or gun powder. It does not make the dog truly "mean," it gives the gut pain, making it irritable.
But since the previously steady dog becomes snappy from it feeling so bad, they think they are making it "mean."

I agree.
At work today we had a client come in asking about ear crops and when we told him the price he said well back ome we just put rubberbands on their ears.
I think it is either ignorance or they are just stupid. People hear things from others then try it.

My dad, who is 72, told me that he made his dogs mean back in the day by putting wasp nests in their food. Maybe the toxins in wasp that make them so aggressive has the same effect on dogs. Weird to me.

Weird to me.where is your dad from? never heard of this, done it,or seen it done.wasps are just onry on their own power they are very territorial and thats why they are so onry.there is no way to make a dog mean other than through abuse, the reason why they are mean is because they hate the world.big big diffrence between a protective dog and a ''mean'' dog, protective dog watches out for you and will lay his life on the line for you because he loves you.a mean dog doesn't care who gets the bite because they are mad at the world for they way the have been treated and the things that have been done to them.

I don't mean to be an A$$ but what the F..K is wrong with people these days!!
NO type of alcohol is EVER ANY good for an animal.....
people amaze me.....
It doesn't have anything to do w/ people "these days" pitt. People have been doing it for years. Where do you think these young whipper snappers learn it? From old folks who did it! My father-in-law fed gun powder to his German Shepherd once & that was about 40 years ago.

I don't think my dog would go near here food if there was a wasp nest in it especially after one sting.
My dog loves Jalapenos and beer. Doesn't irritate her at all. She hears the can open and goes crazy! Only in moderation tho folks.

Come on that shit is just funny to me!
You never know what folks will think of!
I know my FIL regretted feeding that Shepherd gun powder b/c it went crazy & almost ate his a.. up. He had to shoot the dog to keep it from attacking him. Luckily, he had a pistol in the glove compartment or that dog may have mauled him, if not killed him. I felt sorry for the dog, but I sold my husband it served my FIL right.
But I will say my FIL hasn't ever fed a dog anything but food since! ;)

With actual live wasps or just the larvae? I'd be too scared to try and grab a wasp nest...

Ive heard of alot of "myths" about how to make your dog this or that. WTF? Let your dog be what its gonna be. Love, good feed and conditioning is what my mentor told me to use. Not whiskey or wasp nests. Thats almost funny enough to laugh at.

Every time I think "I've heard it all" something new surprises me.
My dog does not like the smell of vodka but would like to drink beer. I told him that he can do so when he is of legal age (18 here).
He isn't too bright.
