I was wondering what lines are known to produce dogs that have a great deal of prey drive.
Also, I've heard praises sung about Chinaman/Redboy crosses and prey drive. Anyone have experience with that cross?

I'd love to hear a little more about your experience with that cross, Attila. Pros and cons, things like that. If you love 'em, I bet they're some good animals ;)
I like a bold, confident, people friendly bulldog that has endless, boundless prey drive. Pit bulls have higher prey drive than your average dog I know, but I tend to like 'em with a extra serving on the side. :D I've been told most Sorrell dogs fit this bill as well. Thoughts, anyone?
BTW, I'm not in the market for a dog. Just trying to learn ;)

Please don't run out and get that cross as that was not what I meant. My reply was to your first sentence. not the second. I will have to work at being more definitive and concise. I have nothing against that cross. But it isn't as intense as the flavor I like. They are a Jalipenio, Chili and I like a Habinero, Scotch Bonnet or Naga. Still hot but not cut your tongue off hot.
You want a sorrell get one from his ex wife. That is all I will say about that.

What do you need the dog to do? How much prey do you need for that activity? You can do exercises to maximise prey drive. Actually use the genetic potential.

I liked the upline of Chinaman. Finding that right cross for you is a bit of a task. Like boots, shoes or women, you have to find the right combination of qualities that best fit you and your personality. Your needs.
When we talk about levels of drive, we have to dive into what exactly we want.
one that if the dog even smells fur a mile off it starts to go nuts. one that will bite its own tail off to kill a flea, one that even Satan will shave to go near. Or someplace less. I want Satan to piss his own fur. If he has it. lol what ever. anyway. This will be the truth as I see it. You never know a dogs drive till you are feeding it and have it out on game. What that dog does in the field on a bear or what ever it is you hunt, is what drive that dog has. No line produces all perfection on any one trait not alone the multiples required to make a total dog. Even the greats had some culling action on the offspring. And one persons great dog isn't always anothers. I personally would pick dogs that have the exact qualities you desire and either get offspring from them or breed to get it, culling what does not fit. Like those boots. there are thousands of different ones and of different colors and sizes. not any two out of a bag will be fitting ya most likely. Same with dogs and their qualities. For some any dog will do. and that is true for them. For the hunter that will not be true. You don't get a poodle to hunt bear. Although it would be funny to watch. Need to experience some older and more privatized yards to get a real feel. To find those dogs that are so driven that they will run themselves dead chasing a fox, or running a mill what ever. The most driven dogs I have probably qualify for being mentally screwed up. They are so intence on killing something that they and I are in the same state of mind all day. Kill, kill, kill runs every few seconds.

Gotcha.

Oh, I know it. I was just throwing it out there to get a few more opinions than the one I got. I'm not looking for a dog right now, just trying to research what would be up my alley in the future.

Agreed on all points. Thank you for your insight, Attilla, it's really appreciated ;)
