San Francisco,CA -- A Sonoma County deputy sheriff shot and killed a pit bull after the dog charged at him, authorities said.

A patrol car was dispatched to a residential neighborhood a few miles north of the town of Sonoma on Friday about 10:30 p.m. Friday, where deputies found two pit bulls fighting.

Lt. Scott Dunn said that when efforts to untangle the dogs failed, one deputy fired a shot at the primary aggressor in the dogfight.

"The wounded dog charged the officer, who fired additional shots and killed it," he said

That's really sad when you consider those inept Pit Bull owners can make a fight stop in about 10 seconds with a little piece of wood.

I dunno about that any "agressive breed" that is shot.. i.e. rott, pitbull, etc.. usually makes news. But I can't blame the police officer. I would shoot any dog charging at me that is bigger than something I could kick away i.e. chihuahua, poodle, pug, weiner dog.. what have you. My safety comes before ANY dog. Don't blame that police officer.. blame the owners of the dog for not keeping it contained properly.

Surely not.. but then again JC (think that was your man killer's name) isn't going to do near the damage if he bites than if my Boomer bites the same cop. Again if push came to shove what does JC weigh? 4 pounds? lol.. just one swift kick and......Field goal!!! LOL

I'm going to say 95% of the time it is the owners in some way or fashion,,,, how they were raised and socialized,,,thats why i try to avoid most ppl and conversations like this cuz it just makes you want to slap the hell out of the owners,,lol

Yeah, a typical news story...half the facts, if they are even facts. Judging from the paucity of facts, I would say that whoever owned the dogs is at fault. We'll never hear any more about it, no doubt, so who knows? Just more media bashing of "pit bulls". If in fact the dog was even a "pit bull" which as we all know is any dog that any member of the public wants to demonize. No information about the other dog or anything.
