Sorry this is off the subject, but i saw it was mentioned in another thread about rats in New York eating chis.Thats interesting because just the other night I was watching old reruns of the animal cops in new york and they had a case where a veterinarian turned this young guy in for dog fighting because the guy brought his pit to the vet for numerous pncture wounds on the dogs body. The guy kept telling the animal cops that the rats in his apartment were biting the dog.Well after a month long investigation, talking to neighbors and such, the guy takes the dog to two other vets who both verify that there was no way the wounds on the dog were from other dogs and were more consistent with bites from a small animal. They cleared the guy and left him alone after that ,but i thought it was just messed up.This man takes responsability ,seeks medical treatment for his pet and that happens to him,WTF?It also gets me because what kind of vet cant tell the difference between a rat and a dog bite?He couldnt tell because he didnt bother paying close enough attention.Just saw a young black man who lives in a poor neighborhood with a wounded pit -bull and made a huge ASSumption. When they interviewed the guy he was just laughing about the whole thing,His comment was"why would i fight my dog then turn around and take it to a vet?,That's just ignorant"Yeah the whole situation was pretty ignorant! And what the hell Rats attacking pit -bulls?!?Crazy shit!

I'm quickly learning that some vets are nothing but unknowledgeable, dishonest, money driven people (disclaimer: this is a assumption based on my experiences, if their are any members on gamedog in the vet profession, please do not take offense, I mentioned SOME)
I took calypso to the vet in nov, she had a cut on her head from chasing her ball under the bed and when pulling her head out lost a patch of hair and had a small scratch, nothing a week wouldnt heal up. I went to this new vet cause i needed her updated shots..the fking guy wouldnt believe my story, he kept asking me am I sure i'm honest, I continued to tell him yes, which really wasnt none of his business. in the end he tells me that next time i come back their better not be any marks or he'd investigate..oh well i never went back, cause he also scheduled me for shit i didn't ask for.
at least he didnt call the cops of me..grief

the only pit bulls that i can think would let a rat bite them is if they were chained improperly or so malnurished and beat down that they no longer cared. or if the rats were so relentless and after the dog 24/7.
rats can be very bold. we had a few bold rats try to move into our backyard during the rains. winston saw to it that they were no longer in the rat gene pool after that. he killed one that was as big as a chinchilla. ack! FYI, screaming will not stop your highly prey driven dog from killing a rat. lol.

Caesar has killed three rats--he goes CRAZY for them. My mom, sisters and I once came home to a joyful Caesar presenting us a massive rat he'd killed in the kitchen. I was the only one who actually saw him run to it, pick it up, and shake it while he made a mad dash to me as if he was bringing me gold. I screamed, jumped the baby gate in front of the stairs and was promptly followed by one of my screaming sisters. My other sister who later admited she DID NOT know why we were screaming, began screaming as well and ran into the patio and slammed the sliding glass door and held it shut. My mom screamed "WHAT?! WHAT?!" and didn't even come into the room but instead screamed in the entrance room.
Caesar in the meantime, assumed he was in trouble and hid behind the couch.

I never have problems with rats. I have cats.
When we lived in a suburban house our little female cat Emily, she weighed about 8 lbs full grown, had a huge rat in her mouth out front. My neighbor freaked out for 2 reasons. The rat was as big as she was and he had no idea there were any rats where we lived. Where there are people there are rats.
Years ago when I lived on a farm I watched this little 4 month old calico kitten grab a rat and take 45 minutes to kill it. It was one hell of a fight. She turned out to be one of the best mousers I ever owned.

we USED to have field mouse problems, not anymore. Birdie doesn't like creatures in her house. She was followed me up the ladder into the attick a couple months ago, then started barking her face off at one corner and refused to be called off.
So I got my husband to come up and he found that the squirrels had gotten in, make a hole under the eaves somewhere and had a nice little nest with socks, scrap fabric, dog food and christmas candy.
We got someone out to get rid of them.
Our pet rats on the other hand, are only safe because the dog knows Daddy will be PISSED if he touches THOSE rats.
And a quick little varmit can bite a pit bull good. Birdie has a permanent scar on the soft part of the front of her nose from SisMorphine's Rabbit, Sexy Rexy. Birdie was sniffing the rabbit with too much interest and the rabbit bit her GOOD!
