I have been reading alot of posts about conditioning and I would like to share afew ideas. A slatemill is a real good tool if it is use right. You have an easy turning mill and a hard turning mill. The hard turning mill works for power and stamina but you cannot use it very long.i do not get caught in that walking thing,it is all about hard work and the proper rest.It is a thousand ways to do a keep and two thousand ways to f--kup a keep. A flirtpole, catmill, carpetmill, weightpull and slatemill are real good tools but you must know when your best friend have had enough. Bulldog23.

i agree with you strongly on that. I have learned that through conditioning my dogs.

EQUIPMENT LIKE TREADMILLS, JENNYS, AND SPRING-POLES ARE GREAT INVENTIONS.....BUT REMEMBER, THEY WERE ORIGINATED BY THE LAZY IN THE FIRST PLACE. INSTEAD OF GOING OUT THERE AND DOING IT THEMSELF, THEY INVENTED A MACHINE TO DO IT FOR THEM.

and I utilize them all like most but keep the above in mind. Theirs nothing like hitting the road with a dog but most of us dont have 6-8hrs a day to spend out there so we use machines. A dog gets a lot more then conditoining on the road, its a great way to bond with your dog, get some sun and that last scratch will be just for you

I prefer an easy turn slatmill. You can hurt your dog on one that does not turn easy. A costly lesson to learn indeed.
