This really does not have to do with bloodlines but my first pup is about 4 mo and 20 lbs and the vet said that i could double her weight and thats what she is going to be. I have never heard this before and was wonder what everyone thinks of this. Is this true in the breed?

I've heard that from a few Vet's as well. I do think it depends on the breed of dog. Smaller dogs normally grow there full size earlier than larger dogs. I guess for a large dog you could double the weight at 6 months, but for a smaller dog double at 3 months i'm guessing. Also ABPT's tend to continue to fill out even after they have stopped growing taller.

Is this true in the breed?rule of thumb but it is not law is that they will at least double their healthy weight at 6 months old.so if your dog weighs say 25 lbs at 6 months you can roughly expect to see a 50-55 pound dog.but it also depends on how much muscle the dog will produce because just as in people muscle weighs more than fat.only time proven method is time,just wait and see what the pup turns out to be thats the only proven method<LABEL for=rb_iconid_12>http://www.game-dog.com/forums/images/icons/icon12.gif</LABEL>

thanks for the advice. i was just kind of curious b/c i never saw the parents of my pup so im kinda in the dark on what she is going to look like.
