i have to disagree with this old thread because i am 120 lbs no tats my ears are pierced and i have normal hair color and style and i wear nice jeans (flare leg or boot cut mostly) and a nice shirt in public most of the time it is like a polo shirt or something to that sort and jogging shoes or doc martin boots and my dogs are well behaved, walk nicely, sit when told, do not jump, or pull and they have regular colars and regular leashes and iam very nice yes mam no mam type person and i still get the worst of the worst said and looks you can think of so appearance or all that doesnt seem to matter. i think it is the media got everyone heads messed up to there thoughts and belives (LIES)! now i have had been able to change a few peoples aspects on these dogs because mine were so well behaved but still they say they wouldnt have one because of what such ansuch news report said!

no it doesn't matter what you look like. Sheeple are sheeple and believe the damn media. I don't even read a paper, watch tv or listen to radio's. Got my movies on DVD or Tape and listen to CD's. Piss on that media crap. From day light to dark anything they spew is lies and distortion of any ethical value people once had.

right they believe when you fall asleep theyll eat you alive and only if they got to actually see these dogs in person and seen them interact with other people then just maybe they could get a different idea about them. but but since we cant beat the media we just have to hold tight and battle to the end for yours mine and ours and hopefully get the best results!

Just out of curisoty. Let's say it's really cold outside & you have to head to the bank. So you bundle up, put a ski mask over your head & face, then put the jacket's hood over your head. Are you going to walk into the bank like that? Despite the fact you regularly dressed that way and are an upstanding citizen who's never done anything wrong?

I was doing some informal research for a blog (which still hasn't been published), and Pit Bull people were far more likely to be tolerant of appearances than the other people I polled. Like it or not, it does have a bearing on how people look at you. However, your dog's behavior and your attitude also contribute. So if you're smiling and pleasant, and your dog is walking at heel, you might be able to convince people that you're not going to eat their children. :)

I'm always in like camoflage clothes and working clothes. People look at me and say " you been hunting". I say " no, working with my dogs,"

They look at me kinda funny.

100% agreed...Its all in how you present yourself and your dog, no matter what you are wearing. Now some people may be adverse to certain looks ...at my last company happy hour I sat and listened to one employee (receptionist) complain about her sons tattoo for about 10 min, and then I (assistant to the Pres) finally said...I don't think its so bad, I have one. The look on her face was priceless. And those people like that, just smile and let it go. But always be friendly because it open doors to bigger things like rallying for our breed and changing minds...(even if the minds are small ones)

the breed's hallmark doesnt revolve around looks. revolves around whats inside, and thats what counts. should be the same with people. :)

Can't agree with you more.

My husband complains because our dogs have so many collars, clothes and accessories, and that I HAVE to dress them up when I take them out. BUT people are more receptive to Petey wearing a dog jeans jacket with Marti Gras beads, a macaroni necklace the Gremlin made and a funky collar than they are if he's just wearing a collar.

The same thing with Birdie, and even more so to an extent because she is seal colored. Petey at least LOOKS like Pete from Little Rascals.

When we're out, people see your typical soccer mom looking woman with a child and a well behaved, cool dressed dog and are more receptive to us.
