View Full Version : Science Diet
My pit bull is almost a year old and I have been giving her Science Diet since she was a puppy. After reading the thread that Suki posted on Science Diet I didnt like what I saw.. The only place around here I can get food at is Pet Smart.. Is there any brand of food you would recommend that I could get at Pet Smart? My dogs weight is right at 48 pound and gets plenty of exercise..
Thanks

If you're limited to just Petsmart food, I really liked Eukanuba when I was feeding it. I've also heard good things about Royal Canin (if they carry that), and their house brand, Authority. That said, have you tried any of the better food manufacturer's websites to see if there are dealers in your area? I know there were several links posted in the thread another member posted about Purina products.

Science Diet? My dogs don't even sniff that CRAP even if I mix it with wet food! Anyway, I feed Nutro Max Large Breed pup. If you are having trouble finding dog food in your area that some venders don't carry here is a site

I forgot to mention I think Canidae is a good food!

Glad you read what you did!
How much are you paying for it? According to Petsmart's website it's approx. $32 for a 40lb bag of the puppy formula. Are you willing to pay more than that or is that max?
They do have some good brands, but not a lot of choice...
AvoDerm
Blue Buffalo
By Nature
Authority (Lamb only, the Chicken formula has corn) and some of the Nutro stuff aren't that bad either and they run a lot cheaper than the list above. I feed Authority (because my mom is the one paying lol) and it costs us under $25 for a 40lb bag.

Really? I've looked and, just like Science Diet, it's overpriced crap. Mostly corn and byproducts.... Authority is better quality than that and its over $10 cheaper!

i'm pretty sure they sell Chicken Soup at Petsmart.
and i agree
i very much dislike the Eukanuba, as imo, it's much like the Scrience Diet=over priced crap, basically.

Really! I make my food judgements based on results, and we were happy with what we were seeing. Now I'm not saying I'd switch from Canidae back to that stuff, but compared to Diamond and Pro Plan and the other things we'd tried, Eukanuba held its own.

Not having tried the others listed above from Petsmart or Petco, but we have used Nutro and Natural Choice, and it isnt that bad....It is hard for bulldogs though to aquire that minimal weight and form with it though...thats when we switched....but for other breeds, I have fed it many of times and will always recommend it. It has no by-product or corn (not what we used) and it's grains are to a minimum.
