sorry folks. have to vent for a second, as the wifey's at work and I can't bitch to her...

so saturday, there was a 'bust' in a neighboring city and arrests were made across sveral counties...here's the link (mods, remove if you feel it's inapproriate, and i'm sure ppl can google it themselves if they want to read i..)

http://www.wdtn.com/dsp_story.cfm?storyid=80473&RequestTimeout=500

So they seized like 64 dogs and arrested a couple dozen ppl. This has been the only thing on the news and in papers the last 72 hours. It's getting old...

Anyways, I go to take Aubrey for her walk this morning after my girl left for work. I go the same time everyday, weather permitting. So I go past some houses on my way to the edge of town, and pass these kids with their moms/dads that are waiting to be picked up by the bus in the morning. For months, the little kids have been in love with Aubrey seeing her every morning; they look forward to it as much as she does. But this morning, no one waited at the end of their drive-way...they all sat up by their porches or the tops of their drives. I got some of the nastiest scowls I've ever gotten. The kids looked like they were being restrained by their parents as much as I was holding Aubrey from tugging to go see them. :(

They know she's an APBT, as I told them when I first introduced her to some of the kids. I've explained how they are supposed to be smaller and more athletic, since some of the parents were confused and had no clue she was a APBT...they thought hippos were, but no need for that stuff right now.

I'm just bummed, because recently Middletown, a city between Dayton and Cincy, decided to reverse their ban on pitbulls. It's like literally dead smack in the middle of the two on I-75. And all these arrests were made in Dayton and Cincy. Talk about bad timing and bad PR!!@##!

Anyway, I'll keep walking as usual; hopefully they come around. I've spent my fair share of mornings talking to the parents explaining it's how you raise them, ppl aggression is a no-no, but DA must be considered and all precautions need to be taken at all times. They see her with Colonel, my JRT some mornings, so they know she's not a blood-thirsty, bite-happy beast.

I just hope these arrests don't give AR & HSUS freaks more ammo. They already have enough.

[END RANT, thanks for taking the time to read]

i'm sorry you are going through this. Can you possibly talk to these parents again, maybe to just re-assure them and ease their tension?

Oh, I'm sure they'll come around. I'll talk to them and reassure them at least my dog will never be a problem. I can't blame them, my #1 concern would be my kids, and if I was uneducated about the breed and the issues they face in the public eye, I'd be fearful to let them around any dog that resembled a "pit bull."

sorry to hear...
I don't know why people have to be that way...
Hopefully, they will stop being weird, and remember the good things about your dog.

Thing I hate is when you read those stories and it says drugs were seized, it makes me wonder did they really get drugs or just adding it for affect.
At this point I don't care what people think about me and my dogs, I've given up on trying to educate people, I just crank my iPod and keep walking.

I know the truth and that is all that matters.

I'm sorry to hear that ...because you know that's not all that matters. If it was, you wouldn't have to worry about having your dogs taken from you because of BSL or false accusations made out of fear of the breed.

Kergin, I must say, props to you for not giving up.

you must never give up the fight....ever......if you do, you'll be doing your dog a major injustice......

Did they "bust" an alleged match in progress, or is this all speculation based on "evidence" from an anon. neighbor, and the fact the multiple men had 64 dogs combined?

14, from what I read, they seized the dogs in their crates before the believed matches took place. I wonder if the "drugs" were any first-aid kit found in cars......you know, like the emergency kit for people. A responsible dog owner should always carry a kit for their dog as well.

Kergin, I would choose to attack the Media before defending your breed. Before any disbeliever of our breed has the ability to believe you, it must realize the Media is not all knowing and not all fact. Attack the Media credibility and point to how they get raidings.........Exaggeration and SHOCK factor. Once you have expressed these words, maybe you can go ahead with pointing out the history of the APBT (an American breed since before 1900s) and its famous Ambassadors throughout modern time.

Scotsman, if you live to something similar to me, leave that iPod at home man. I keep my ears wide open in case someone starts shouting.......... Believe me, I have saved a few fierce dogs from a reality check by hearing owner screams in time.

4 were "being held at a warehouse, in a physical state ready to go into a contest" is what a person w/ a blacked-out face and altered voice said in a video they played on the news at noon today.

No matches were in progress (to my limited knowledge...I spoke with someone who supposedly used to run with some of those folks, so it's hear-say, take it for what you will). But, they're going to euth all of the dogs, even though they are ppl friendly, b/c they have been trained to fight, in fights, etc. They're basing this off of the fact that some dogs were missing parts of their faces, heads (the female featured in the article was missing part of her lower jaw), limbs, scars, etc.

It made me go out back and double-check her chain (even though it's checked from o-ring to o-ring each time she goes on it) just to make sure she wouldn't get off somehow and end up on the 5 o'clock news tonight to add more feul to the fire.

On the news, the AG claimed more warrants will come in the following weeks, as they want to make it clear that in OH dog matches aren't an acceptable practice.

The neighbors will come around on their own, but in 5 or so years I won't have to deal with neighbors when we move out to no-where-ville and have acreage of woods around us :D

14- to respond to your post, the warrants were issued and busts made from over a year of someone having close ties with those folks, video of matches, training, phone conversations....all the typical junk involved w/ a bust according to channel 7 news around here.

Ummm, I never said I gave up against BSL did I, not that I see!!!! I still write articles and emails to the local media when a dog bit comes up. I send emails to politicians were BSL's are coming up for voting!
What, I don't do it talk to Joe Schmoe on the street or the car full of gansta thugs that roles up and asks if my "Pitt" is a "jug head" from England or if they can buy a pup when I breed him/her, or the kids that ask if my dog bits cause their cousins "Pitt" attacked the neighbor.
I don't real care to talk to people about bull dogs unless they know bull dogs.

Not sure if they do this in Ohio, but here they offer a reward of $2500 for info that leads to the arrest and convition of someone matching dogs. So the more people you turned in the greater the chance you'd get your money.

On a more positive note, the 6 o clock news just had a bit on it.

They were at a dog park, of all places, doing the report.

At least all of the dog owners there that they interviewed said something to the extent of, "This gives 'pit bulls' a bad name, because it's not their fault they were allowed to do this, etc etc," at least placing the blame on the owners and not the dogs.

I'm glad they had that angle for their story, instead of placing the blame on the breed.
